eufy Cam Corroded - Not Impressed with This Product - Alternatives??

I've had 2 x eufy cam's which I bought from Amazon - once in Dec 2019 - homebase battery backup failed and they replaced the entire thing (just out of warranty); and now a second 3 x camera set has 2 of the 3 cameras with corroded micro USB charging ports at the back, despite having the silicone cover pushed in - they are advertised as IP67 weatherproof but I noticed when recently re-pairing the camera, it now has a guide saying to really make sure the silicone cover is pushed in - maybe they have had some issues with these. I think the cover has shrunk.

image of the advertised listing.

"IP-67 Weatherproof
Constructed from cutting-edge ASA composite material, eufyCam works perfectly in rain, freezing -20°C (-4°F) winters, or scorching 50°C (122°F) summers."

Luckily, Amazon came to the party and refunded it as well (despite being 3 mths out of warranty) once I pushed with ACL 'effective life' complaint… :)

Now - purpose of my post -
1) I think Eufy is crap and unreliable - but I will give them credit for an innovative simple product (let's not also forget their recent data issues!!)
2) Amazon returns process is really good!
3) I want to upgrade to something more quality, reliable - maybe even wired? Does anyone have recommendations? We have a very large house and need at least 4 cameras.

Price does tempt me to look at Eufy again, I believe they have a new HD version Eufy cam 3 just came out? And I also am needing a few sensor spotlights so may be worth combining…but would be keen to try and resist the tempation to avoid buying another Eufy and ending up risking poor / no warranty issue in the future!

Perhaps Swann, or Reolink??

The Reolink 8CH 4K with 4 cameras is $719 at Amazon right now

I really did like the Eufy app, instant notification, and no subscription fee. Cloud storage not important to me.

If you live in Sydney it’s more than likely the sea air that’s corroding them.

  • One more reason to not get Eufy.

We use Reolink at work for over a year now and are happy with everything. Would recommend.

Cheaper Reolink would be the 5mp version. https://www.amazon.com.au/Reolink-Security-Outdoor-Recording…

  • Are you near the beach? Within say 2k's.

The salt in the air corrodes anything exposed even if it does not get wet.

    • I do, as a matter of fact…,Hmm hope this wasn’t caused by salt air but maybe you are right.

      • I do

It’s 100% the sea breeze that’s killing them. I used to live closer to the sea as well growing up and the salt air would kill so many electronics before their time.

      • The salt air caused corrosion which killed them. The IP rating does NOT stop salt air corroding the insides or the connectors. Same thing happened to someone I know as the place was very near the ocean.

The only thing you can do is after getting a new camera and getting it working is to seal all of the gaps and holes with silicon sealant to fill any holes to stop the salt air getting inside or into the connectors.

  • I clicked on the Amazon link and was informed 'you bought this in December 2019'.

Hope it's not a batch issue or anything like that - mine work fine so far. The casing one one has faded as it is in direct sun, but other than that, they're all working fine and visible issues.

    • Did you purchase in December 2019? It may have been because I used a unique link from my account, I have replaced it with a generic Amazon link now.

      • hehe.. yes, I actually bought one in December 2019 ;)

        Been working great so far.

  • When you say instant notification, is it really tell you the soonest event happen or seconds after or a minute? I would like to compare with the Arlo I have. Arlo is great too by the way, should be the same thing as eufy. No known corrosion issue.

    • For my unit, it's hit and miss. Sometimes it's been instant to the point where I can talk to the delivery person at my front door, other times it's minutes after the event.

    • No, definitely not instant… More like 15/20 secs. Oh and eufy at times doesn’t even trigger and misses whole human walking past at times !!

      • Yah, same with Arlo, most of the time it's ok, but there were times it missed and take a minute or two to notify.

I combo this Arlo with a motion detector thus I don't miss anyone in driveway.

      • @dammit
If someone runs past a eufycam it will miss it 100% of the time.

Did the ones with the corroded charging ports stop charging?

    • Yep. Stopped charging.
