Any of these lens good for a webcam lens?

    • sure. Overkill, but sure.

    • +1

More popular with those who stream, So if your just doing a Webcam for a Teams call your not exactly going to get even close to the quality the camera can provide.
If your streaming on TY/Twitch or recording yourself then yeah sure this lense can be 100% utilised

  • Are these for crop or FF?

    • +1

      full frame

      • +1

Are they full frame? they certainly fit a FF but I thought FE was the designation for full frame E-mount lenses, E being for crop.

        • I had a look here. Not sure what the SF in the product name is but the description on Amazon just says F051

@Caped Baldy: Yeah, so looking at the specs, it's 24mm F/2.8 in full frame, which I believe is 16mm F/1.8 in APS-C (divide by 1.5).

            • +1

@NigelTufnel: APS-C is 1.6x zoomed in vs. FF.

so a 10mm FF lens is actually 16mm on Crop

              • @Laserface: Depends on the brand - I believe Canon has a 1.6x crop and Nikon/Sony have a 1.5x crop.

@cptnawesome: correct, however they are always tighter than a full frame, not wider.

                  • @Laserface: Yes. My bad mixed them up. So if this is 24mm FF, then it would have an equivalent view of a native 36mm lens on Sony APS-C camera?

This is why I've always just stuck with native APS-C lenses for my a6400 - I get confused easily.

                    • @NigelTufnel: Correct.

you can always use a Full Frame lens on a compatible crop mount, but using a crop lens on FF you will get strong vignetting.

I have a a6500 w/ Tamron 28-75 F2.8 which is why I initially brought it up - I believe my version of the lens was intended for crop frames whereas they seem now to be FF.

  • Kind of tempted but mobile phone cameras are very good these days and very convenient. My A7 is permanently mounted as my webcam with a 50mm f1.8 in manual focus mode.

    • +4

Yeah for sure. Cameras can take better photos than a phone, but it's heavy/large to carry, is ready to shoot as quickly as a phone, you have to make sure it's in focus and you may have to edit/touch it up afterwards. I've taken way better photos on my camera than on my phone but it takes a lot of effort to do so. If you're just taking happy snaps or just want something to capture a moment then phones are way better.

      • before mobile phones with good cameras, it's almost often hobbyists walk around with a PnS and a SLR… for that specific reason for 'in the moment' snaps.

it gets increasingly annoying using a SLR for low light shots, because i'm not too keen to bring out the 2kg tripod and flash.

  • I have this, its pretty good lens.

  • +1

Not a great lens, but for roughly two hundred dollar bucks delivered it's a no brainer if you need a cheap wide, although it's coming up as almost $300 for me.

  • Which one would be better: this tamron or the Rokinon 24mm f/1.8 (also $200) that was posted earlier?

    • Do you mean the Rokinon 24mm f/2.8? Between these two from what I've read they're overall pretty similar so probably comes down to your priorities. Pick the Tamron for better image quality and slower autofocus, pick the Rokinon for out and out compactness

  • It shows for me -41% $293.54
do I need any code or something to make it $210 or the price jumped?

    • Price jacked already. Deal is gone. But they may drop the price again very soon.

    • It's back down to $210

      • maybe up again. Showing $293 now
