I checked a couple and they are always free

    • +14

Though the post is helpful as a reminder and a central repository for links

      • -3

That is what the forums are for…

        This is for posting bargains

        • +1

Freebies are bargains. They always will be.

          • +1

            @Chmmr:

            Freebies are bargains.

Freebies are, but if something is always free, it is not a freebie and belongs in the freeware forums.

            • +1

@jv: Yes they are, because they're still free. It's a freebie.

              • -8

                @Chmmr:

                Yes they are

Nope. Bargains and freebies are for items where you are saving money.
A freebie is something that is free, that you normally pay for.

Freeware is always free, there is not saving, and belongs in the forums… There is a special section for them there.

              • +7

@Chmmr: Yup, and other recent instances of this such as:
                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/743356

62 upvotes on today's post so far indicates that @jv has chosen an unpopular and reasonably pointless hill to die on.

                • -2

                  @park:

200 people also decided it was not worth an upvote. You are one of them.

                  • +2

@jv: That's normal. Stop being so damaged.

                    • @park:

                      That's normal.

Yep, normal people agree it's not worth an upvote…

                  • +4

@jv: And yet no one has down voted OP either. Unlike your comments.

                    • @Chmmr:

no one has down voted OP

-ve vote would get revoked under the voting rules…

that is a separate issue from this not being a legitimate bargain or freebie anyway…

80% of people reading this thread do not think it is worth an upvote.

              • -1

                @Chmmr: here's a list of 100's of free ebooks…

                https://www.amazon.com.au/s?i=digital-text&rh=n%3A6192200051…

post them as deals then… 🤣

            • +2

@jv: Have to agree with jv on this one. These and a lot more are always free via Gutenberg. You can rehash the same books but it doesn’t changes the fact that they are always free. Not a bargain but maybe a PSA or reminder.

    • +8

You're probably right but most of AmazonClassics eBooks are actually not free. This is just the list of the ones which are available for free without prime.

      • -8

This is just the list of the ones which are available for free

They should be posted in the freeware forums if they are always free…

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/forum/30381

        • +6

I'm not actually sure if they are always free. How can I be sure if they are always free or not? It doesn't say that on amazon.

            • +13

@jv: I'm really not arguing with you. I'm genuinely asking the question to learn. How do you know if they have always been free or just free for a period of time? I really don't know how to tell.

PS: Why are you so aggressive? I don't know the rules and I'm trying to learn, that's why I'm asking the question. I didn't post this to gain any benefits and if I knew it should have been posted in forums, I'd have done that. It really doesn't make any difference to me.

                • +16

@jv: Sorry, my bad. Should have ignored you in the first place. Have a good day and bye.

                  • -7

                    @FreeFrag:

                    and bye.

                    Where are you off to?

                    • +2

                      @jv: Specsavers?

(because they clearly didn't see you coming)

                    • @jv: Book club. Come along and you can tell everyone how smart you are.

                  • +7

@FreeFrag: My OzBargain experience has been greatly improved by the 'hide' button. Find one of jv's posts, click 'hide', select 'Hide comments from user jv'. This allows me to give them exactly how much attention they deserve: none at all :)

          • +5

@FreeFrag: To answer your question, some of these books are in the public domain as their authors are deceased and copyrights have expired.

Also save your time and energy in the future. JV loves to get into useless 'intellectual' debates that go nowhere and achieve nothing.

  • +3

    OP Thanks for the list

  • +11

Copyright expired on these books about a century ago, so they've been available for free digitally for decades.

    • +2

Yes, but now you can opt into Amazon's ecosystem for free too! More things need to have (quicker) copyright expirations

    • +4

Most of AmazonClassics eBooks are not free on amazon and I personally was looking for the list of free ones because it's just a bit easier if you're using a kindle. Thought could be useful for others too.

    • +4

They have the gull to call them AMAZONclassics, like they ever had any part in creating them.

  • +1

Forced to read some of them in HS, alongside CliffsNotes. Not about to read any again in my free time. :D

  • +12

Plug for always-free Standard Ebooks which are well formatted books. Better quality than Gutenberg

    https://standardebooks.org/

    • Thanks. Looks very interesting.

    • Thanks so much for this! This is an amazing website!

  • +1

Where's the greatest novel ever written, War and Peace by Tolstoy? It will keep you busy until the end of the US proxy war(s) - in your neighbourhood ;)

  • +1

Thanks, had most from previous drops but filled my virtual boots.

  • +4

You can get these for free (always) on https://www.gutenberg.org/ in whatever format you'd like.

  • +4

My finger is now bleeding but thank you for the post. Ignore the haters.

    • Thanks. All good. Just for a moment forgot that I'm on Internet and tried to have a civilised conversation! Totally my fault ;)

  • +3

    Thanks FreeFrag.

    Some people are just assholes.

  • +2

    Thanks FreeFrag

your post helped me easily add lots to my pile of books to read before I die

      • +2

Post it in the forum :p

        • Well I didn't post it as a deal…

      • +2

From what I can see, your listing shows books free if you have Kindle Unlimited, which isn’t really the same thing as what the OP posted.

        • From what I can see, your listing shows books free if you have Kindle Unlimited

          look closer then…

          1st one in the list

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Best-Friends-Baby-Outback-Babies-e…

          • +1

@jv: I am looking, your listing says free with kindle unlimited, which isn’t actually free.

Edit: you just posted one free book, which its quality doesn’t even compare to classics. The rest of the listing is free with kindle unlimited. Not free.

            • @Psygnosis:

your listing says free with kindle unlimited

not the 1st one and many of the others.

there are 100's of free ebooks there

  • +1

    Thanks
    Got them all by US!

  • +1

Thanks I had some gaps in my library. Full as a goog now ! 😀👍

  • +1

    Thank you, OP :)

  • +1

    Thanks OP

  • +1

What the heck, it says I've borrowed my limit and I have to 'return' some… but I want to keep them forever to never read them ?!

Oh I just realised I've been madly clicking on 'Read' not 'Buy'…. whoops

  • +1

This is awesome. I was missing quite a few from my collection.

  • +1

Many thanks for all the work on this OP… much appreciated.

  • What device do people here use to read ebooks?

    • +1

Right now, I'm using a Kindle but that's just because it was a gift! I'll probably buy a Kobo next time. Not that I have any issues with my Kindle, but Kobo seems more flexible.

      • Libra 2?

        • +1

Yup, that's what I had my eyes on.
