  • What would the approximately “normal” price be for these flights?

    • +1

      Qantas flights? About $1500-1600

    • -4

Define normal? I paid around $800 return maybe ten years ago and that was a great deal. This is a very good price for current times

    • +1

Can't say for these specific flights.

But Melbourne to Miami departing late Jan, returning late Feb was close to 3k via Qantas late last month. Now its down to just under 2k, alas I already booked with Qatar at 2.4k.

  • +6

But… qantas. I'd be condoning Alan Joyce.

    • +2

Qantas + LAX. Like a match made in hell!

      • Much better to fly to Texas. I hope they bring the Dallas service back.

        • There are MEL-DFW flights in Jan.

          • +1

@dyziplen: Brisbane here, so Sydney is about the only viable alternative airport if heading east. Last time I went BNE-AKL-IAH, a really great flight on an Air NZ 773 jet.

  • +1

Waiting for Xmas trip on sale for 2023

    • +2

      Will never happen.

  • OP any deals from Adelaide to HCMC, Vietnam?

  • +9

Good deal op… just make sure luggage is made of stainless steel

    • +1

Then Qantas will slap you with a heavy baggage fee.

      • and lose your baggage!

    • with a tracking device!

  • +4

OP why do you think Qantas is better than United/Delta/American? I find it very hard to believe these airlines could be anywhere near as bad as Qantas given they operate in the competitive US market whereas Qantas can survive its incompetance because it's propped up by a lack of competition for domestic corporate travel.

    • +11

I see that you havent flew domestic in the US

      • +3

        This ^ haha

Qantas has at least got a history of quality travel, sure it went to shit now but it's still offering a much better experience than the US airlines ever have… The US has an expectation of "flying is always going to be bad" so there's no push for the airlines to try and outdo each other from what I'd guess

      • United<Delta<AA<Alaska<Southwest

    • A380 would be my reason for flying them, assuming that's what they are using on this route at the moment.

      • They are using 787 for MEL to LAX for the couple dates I looked.

      • A330 from BNE when we flew last month.

    • +3

Try flying domestic USA mate. Then you will realise how good we got it here.

      • I flew JetBlue Boston - SFO a couple of months ago, and it was superior in every way to any domestic flight I have had in Oz in the past 20 years.

    • +1

Not OP, but having flown United/Delta/AA… They're a far inferior service to Qantas; United seems to have the oldest planes ever; Delta and AA were kind of like Virgin Atlantic style (felt like a no-frills cleaner Jetstar).

Qantas isn't bad compared to American (US) airlines…

    • -1

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie - yes they need to clean up their act post-covid, but more of your $s stay here with local office employment and taxes, and your super fund and/or bank has probably invested in them. Plenty of foreign shareholders too but its still important.

  • -1

Cool, going by those prices, I'll book a return flight from Adelaide to Perth and you can pay me $8.

  • +3

I guess this is an decent price, all things considered.

But Yankland itself is very expensive these days

    • and I hear from a seasoned traveller to USA, far less welcoming post-covid!

  • +3

Option for non Qantas luggage smackdown event?

  • You should note that gone is the 2 suitcase baggage allowance,

    • as well as some meal preferences eg: AVML

  • Just flew qantas.. Never again :/

    • +1

      Until the next sale!

    • +2

      please elaborate what happened? -
I've been unsure if it is just people piling onto the trendy Qantas bashing / Joyce must go party lately or not
(a bit like every time there is a HN deal all the Gerry haters neg it…. whereas honestly I couldn't care so long as it's a deal)
It's really important that we have strong Australian businesses for our economy and employment, super fund shares etc, so it is sad when they get a bad reputation and foreign businesses are all we are left with

      • They try to be a premium airline when their customer service on the ground is non existent for a start, literally budget airlines are better in this regard.

  • I still prefer United.
    Cheaper and more reliable.

    • +3

wow, you know Qantas is in trouble when people are calling United reliable

Cheapo flight has it for $600 is this legit or a scam?

    • +3

The scam is you fly American airlines

      • +3

not helpful you donkey, but it is funny haha

    • +3

im 95% sure this is a scam, its a shame to see flight finder have links to scam sites, not sure what to trust on their website now

      • to clarify, the OP's original post and deals are legit…
flightfinderau posts valuable insights to this community regularly for some time.

It is this rogue link to Cheapoflyt that was found for $650 that has the questionable reviews on trustpilot … not part of OP's original deal list.

    • +3

A quick Google suggests scam, or at least unreliable. $650 return is too good to be true imo.

      • i agree with you 100%, i feel bad for people thinking flightfinder is safe and go and waste their money on a scam.

        • Well, Flightfinder is ultimately just an airline and OTA aggregator like Skyscanner or Kayak - it pays to always be wary of what they offer up. I almost always just use them to find the cheap dates and then book direct with the airline.

          • +1

@Ozymandias: thats a great suggestion, ill book direct through airline, thank you

          • -3

            @Ozymandias: Thanks. Well said!

            • @flightfinderau: My reply was more of a buyer beware, I would still expect a certain level of scrutiny for OTAs you list.

          • @Ozymandias: I would prefer to use the aggregator's link where possible so they earn their CPA commission for the purchase for the hard work they've put in to bring the deals to us. It's fair where I wouldn't have found the deal without their help (and generally costs me no extra).

            • +1

@MrFrugalSpend: Oh definitely, if there’s an airline direct link I’ll go through there, but I find there often isn’t.

        • -3

No scam. It's no different to Skyscanner, iWTF, Beatthatflight etc

          • +1

@flightfinderau: Additionally, a quick check of Skyscanner on the date posted by harryoz does not include Cheapoflyt, accordingly they are different as they have obviously done some quality control to maintain their reputation about which providers they want to display…

I don't mind your site and would check the source before booking, but at least put a disclaimer and link to a consistent review site or something (e.g. trustpilot or some sort of product review / star rating system for the booking authority so you can gather feedback from users who book etc - may mean someone is willing to click no 2 such as BYOJet if they get good rating for a bit more peace of mind as its not all about the intially displayed price)

    • -1

I don't see $600. It's at least $1250. Where are you seeing this?

      • +2

        Its here:
        https://flights.flightfinderau.com/flight.ashx?oc=MEL&dc=LAX…

Its a confirmed scam, you should remove it from your website before innocent people fall victim to it.

        • +3
        • Or is it just not showing taxes?

        • Definitely a scam stay away!

          • +1

@pnexus015: just to clarify, it is just the rogue Cheapoflyt link that is questionable reviews, whereas the deals flightfinderau rep has mentioned above are legit, (as is flightfinderau)

            • +5

@MrFrugalSpend: Thanks for the clarification mate. I spoke to IWTF who Flightfinderau is affiliated with and they have confirmed that the deal has been removed (so it did exist). Additionally they are bringing in a check if there are priced at least 30 percent less than the second lowest price, it will be removed as most likely it is bogus. Thanks all for bringing this to my attention and I sincerely hope there was no harm done.

        • +2

I almost bought this, thank God I saw your comment here

        • Sorry when I click through to the link I see $1250 AUD. Are you able to send a screenshot please so I can investigate further?

          • @flightfinderau: Should've gone to specsavers.

    • is that US$ and is taxes included?

  • Just booked last night with Fiji airways for slightly more money Brisbane to Sanfran 1 stop nadi. There is a 24 hour cancellation policy but it sounds really dicey, have to cancel the flight first then kindly ask for the 100% refund. Worried ill get about $5k of Fiji credit instead or even just a kick in the a$$.

Originally wanted to go to in through LA but it was cheaper to Sanfran. $1150 Qantas direct to LA would have been killer.

  • +2

I just flew QANTAS from LA to BRISBANE last Thursday and not one but TWO of our bags are still undelivered.

QANTAS customer service has been appalling and I've called up five times with their overseas call centres having no idea of when they will deliver our luggage near on a week later. They tell you that they will call you back and update you with the status but they never do. Additionally we are still owed a refund on a flight change which I've called and emailed about several times with no response or resolution. I'm not holding my breath as to when our luggage might be returned or if we will ever see the promised refund from a flight change.

Qantas used to be a market leader but the cheap outsourcing has killed their business along with so many previous flyers loyalty.

  • I need to apply for a new passport for my son. Can I book these tickets for june not knowing his passport number for now and supplying it once he gets a new passport?

Just make sure the name matches exactly
