  • They used to have a Syncro 20 model which was a great size and design. They do not do it any more.

They replaced it with Raptor and Raven which are 14L max - too small.

I got their big and expensive commuter one - Radial… It is so big that it is almost impossible to ride.

So, really don't know what to replace my Syncro 20L with.

Every year or two I keep checking - and still nothing yet.

    • Am not sure about comparison to Syncro but I got the Quasar 28L and it arrived today. Well worth for this price.

    • Happy owner of the 24L Metron - still full price unfortunately

    • Been waiting on a deal for a Syncro 20 or Talon 20 for a while but it doesn't seem like it'll be happening any time soon

      • Not even a deal - Syncro 20 are hardly present on the market for a full price. Maybe time to switch to Evoc…

  • Quasar seems like the old model, which is not to say bad but don’t have the new breathable back

Aphelia’s are for woman so harness might not fit larger people fyi.

    • Quasar does come with a breathable back. Below is the description from Paddy pallin.

A breathable backpanel and soft harness make for a comfortable carry, no matter if you’re commuting to work, school, the farmer’s market or your favorite watering hole.

  • Is it worth it?
I still love my only 2 years old nike bag!
Haven't tried any of these before

    • osprey bags have a good reputation

    • I have 5 year old bike bag. I know it's time for something more better. Osprey is a name i keep hearing about.

I own 2 ospreys and would have jumped on this if I saw it in time. IMO they are the only brand for me

    • If you are hiking/on the move for a few hours- Yes. Or regularly do long walks eg 20min walk to train or office. Just more comfortable.

But if it's for gym/uni/work where you carry it in from train/car, then leave it lying around while you work, pick whatever cause you probably don't wear it long enough to be uncomfortable and and sweaty…

  • Any recommendations for a multiday alpine hike? Is this suitable for light/ultralight?

You can try osprey Exos (men) / Eja (women) packs

      • That's the one I used (38L) hiking through Japan. It's very comfortable. Only problem I have with it is that it can't sit upright on its own, and it can be too big for carry on for most flights these days (the frame is not collapsible).

  • Oos, Glad I missed it!!

  • Can't go wrong with Osprey packs, still got the 30L one I got a few years ago.

How is a backpack for a woman different to a backpack for a man?

    • +2

Different dimensions. Similar to clothing. Men wider shoulders, chest shaped differently for straps and waist all different. Makes a big difference when carrying for hours.

      • Hmm. Fair enough. I figured most people's backs are the same shape and they would be pretty much unisex depending on size. (Leaving different style preferences put of it.) Kinda makes sense I guess.
