How Many Amazon Returns Have You Done

Just curious how many Amazon purchases people have returned, especially relative to the number of total purchases they've made.

In total probably done around 5 returns over the past few years with circa 200 orders. But recently had to return 2 of my last 4 orders, and a bit worried.

  • I've never had the need to. I've had two issues where the issue was resolved with Amazon credit but I've never had to return anything.

    ban hammer incoming

  • I ordered these 12 items from third party seller from NZ for $800, and seller didn't have stiock in some of them and as he could not do partial refund at that time, he refunded the entire order. Get emailsoon after from Amazon warned that I have done too many returns with third party seller. Explained the issue, but the response seemed one sided.

Ever since, many of my orders require signature on delivery. Try in different account the same order didn't attarct signature. Annoying.

less than 5, with around 250 purchases a year.
returns have usually been due to faulty product as well

I've had 400+ orders this year alone, no returns ever. I honestly wonder if they'll ban me due to the number of free deliveries they provide me.

    • They’ll increase Prime’s fees.

  • One order for a set of headphones one year worn. A minor inconvenience which I did not realise at the time of purchase is the distinction between an item sold by Amazon US vs Amazon AUS.

I'd purchased from Amazon US (through Amazon AUS) which meant I had to send the parcel back to a US address that cost more than a domestic parcel.

I was reimbursed for all postage charges in the end, but the extra hassle, cost and time taken for the US warehouse to receive the parcel was a minor inconvenience.

was starting return process (well i asked for replacement and lucky the stock is available)
the agent said ok here is the return label you have 2 weeks to return it. and in the meantime i have send the replacement you should receive it in 2 days.
and yes 2 days later i have the new one and the old one still with me…..

amazing. comparing with jbhifi ? lol

    • How does that work? Thought the replacement not be sent only on the confirmation of old one been returned?

      • No.. they want great customer experience which means sending the replacement straight away to minimise wait times. However, c***s like the piece of shit you replied to is why we don’t have many nice things anymore.

    • You will get billed again after 30 days if Amazon have sent you a replacement and you haven't returned the original item.

  • another one:

bought a portable game console, and its charger at the same time, showing both in stock. console arrived, charger got delay.
i told them how do i play it battery flat when arrive i need the charger.
they said okay here is full refund for the charger get buy from local store, if the charger arrive, just keep it for spare.

  • Actual returns in the past 19 years and it'd have to be over 1000 orders now - about 3. Probably about 10 that were credited due to damage and probably about 10 or so that have been credited due to never being delivered. They seem to happen in batches. Had a non delivery recently and then the next week one that arrived damaged. It'd probably been a year before that to the last one.

  • Heaps. I finally got an email from the [email protected] bot the other week asking me wtf?

    • How many is heaps though

      • Off the back of my head…probably 10%? Almost 300 orders this year, similar numbers in the last couple of years.

  • None, but over the last 12 months or so I've had to get a refund on 4-5 orders out of about 40 because the idiot delivery drivers can't read shipping labels properly and stuff hasn't been delivered.

Got an email from Amazon asking me if my own address is correct. The sheer arrogance.

  • I bought 2 lacoste polos because I wasn't sure of the fit and returned the one that didn't fit. Also returned an SSD because I had buyers remorse. That's it for me.

  • I think I've had 3-4 over the last 12 months all for fault issues. Otherwise maybe 1-2 in the previous 10 years or so.

  • I once purchased a Banjo, which had to come from the USA. The pictures misrepresented the size, and I received a large box. When I opened the large box, it was the size of a Ukelele.
Sure enough, I checked the specs (which were imperial FFS) and they were correct. I contacted Amazon via chat, and they said a return was OK, but I had to ship it to Amazon USA, at my own cost. When I did a quote it was nearly the same as the $150 I paid for the Banjo.
The representative went away, came back and said they would credit it, and it was up to me to destroy or donate it.
I was going to donate it, but the damn thing won't stay in tune.

    • So what did you do with it? Was it just low quality?

      • I still have it. Yes. If I give it to someone I know, they might give it back.

  • I seem to be tracking around the 28 order a year mark. I think I've only technically returned one item - a boardgame that had a hole punched in the side but there was no damage to the parcel.

    Otherwise:

    • A boardgame from Amazon US was missing some cards. They said to keep it, but they were out of stock - would I like another game instead? Free copy of Rebellion, woot
    • Xiaomi M365 scooter had a battery that died after two days. Sorry, we can't accept return of hazardous materials, please accept this full refund. (Ordered another scooter, third one still hanging on the garage wall waiting for me to sort out a battery).

This last couple of weeks, though, standards have slipped massively. Ordered the Lego Home Alone set. Arrived in an oversized box with a single sheet of brown paper as padding. Damage to the edges and corners of the Lego box from being thrown around. Took me getting bounced around between no fewer than six Amazon reps to get a partial refund (20%).

Then all the PC parts I ordered for Xmas starting turning up. Same deal - no padding, loose packing, damaged boxes. GPU thrown in a box big enough for a case with nothing else except that same sheet of brown paper. I just wore it, and crossed my fingers that everything will work when the kids hook it all up on Xmas Day. But then a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU and 32gb of RAM rocked up in a literal paper bag that had been ripped open and was being held together by AusPost "we had to fix this" tape. Amazon reps: it's a rare exception, thank you for understanding -This chat has ended-. No, you f*&^wads, four packages in a row are not "an exception".

Apparently I'm on some sort of list now that means my parcels get extra attention to packaging. I'll believe it when I see it.

You've been labelled a Karen in the logistics notes lmao

Hopefully you will indeed get better packing…

  • I think I've done three:

    • Ordered the wrong product
    • Unsuitable product
    • One change of mind
  • Only one issue, when Amazon sent the wrong item. It was a very low value item - they refunded and told me not to bother returning it.
