Reinforced Garden Hose Recommendations

Hi OzB, I just bought a Ozito High Pressure Washer 2030psi 1800W from Bunnings.

The manual suggests I need a reinforced garden hose (minimum diameter of 12mm; no longer than 8m) for the inlet connection to connect mains water to the pressure washer.

Any recommendations on this front? :) thank you!

  • Did you check what options Bunnies have?

I've been using pressure washers for 25 years and just used decent quality garden hoses with Gardena fittings.

Power washed down the front of my house yesterday using a 30m 18mm hose without any noticeable difference compared to smaller hoses.

Just use what you've got. If it fails then look for a better hose and fittings.

    • Yep. All about the fittings. Pope are good and easily available at the Big Green Shed.

Took your advice and turns out what I had was sufficient. Thanks! :)

We use hoselink, but they only sell direct., and are not more expensive.

    • How do you find their fittings? They look fairly good to me, but never tried em.

Excellent, but buy a few spare washers and fittings, to save on freight.

      • +3

I rate their fittings. Never had a leak from one, unlike regular quick fittings that every third fitting leaks.

Absolutely love the hoselink range - never had a failure.

I've had, and used, pressure washers for years. It never occurred to me that I needed to use a short re-inforced hose to supply them. An ordinary garden hose has always worked satisfactorily.

The only problem I'd envisage is if the water pressure you have is so low that the hose doesn't supply the amount of water the pressure washer is trying to pump out. Which would cause negative pressure in the hose. And maybe if it wasn't that bad, and it just reduced the pressure in the hose, the click fittings might not seal well.

    • Cheers GordonD appreciate your help, normal garden hose worked just fine for me too..

  • For garden hoses, I can vouch for Esdan Plastics.
Was sick of all the crappy Bunnings hoses cracking, kinking and turning rock hard (bring on the puns lads) after a few months in the sun.

Ordered a 30m blue knitted hose from Esdan's eBay store based on a Whirlpool forum recommendation and it's still going strong after 3 yrs. The Bunnings sprayer head on it is almost falling apart by comparison.

Ordered more hoses last year for a new place and they sent one with plastic instead of the nickel fittings ordered. Sorted it out for me promptly without fuss. Great bunch to deal with

Thanks for the recommendation mate! Will refer back when my crappy hose also goes rock hard..

Make sure the inlet hose is rated for 2030 psi just to be safe 👍

I've sold pressure for years. Not the toys from Bunnings etc. The toys would be lucky to use 7 to 8 LPM and that's nothing. You can run 3 phase 3,000PSI @ 15 LPM through a normal garden hose.

How much for 3000psi? I can pay cash.

        Oops. Pressure washers.

Sorry mate. Retired now. Was Rep for Karcher and Warwick.

The industry has changed so much. Like a lot of industries it's been dumbed down. Psi has been reduced. Water volume has been reduced. Running life has been reduced. Cost cutting everywhere.

As expected, no response from Scott Morrison.

    • He said Labor’s faults

    • He already has, answered to his population of 1, himself.

Isn't he still the secret minister for rubber hoses?

  • You can use any hose with a 12mm or larger diameter, preferably anti-kink. The pressure washer won't die if the water supply gets cut for a couple seconds.

  • Pope and Nylex make good hoses. Nylex & Gardena make good fittings. I learned this after using the cheap stuff.

    • My ones at home worked fine but I’ll keep this handy if anything goes wrong. Thanks!

  • Just use a regular hose. I’ve used them with 2 30m hoses joined on occasion.

I buy a lot of hoses. I have cockatoos. They appear to think hoses are snakes, and the "teenagers" show how brave they are by "killing" them. And I'm talking about the kink-resistant reinforced hoses.

  • Cheers OzB brains trust! on the advice I just used the hose and fittings we have at home (the fitting is quite trash and dribbles from the mains a little) and it worked just fine

I have a feeling this ozito and I are gonna be best buddies

  • Best off buying a cheap hose from bigw. I have paid a premium for a hose with warranty, only to have it split within 3 year warranty period, and then not be able to locate the receipt. Got a $20 hose from bigw, 30m, rarely kinks, still going strong. Expensive hose always kinking, unwieldy, and ended up splitting precisely because it was made stronger and less flexible.

  • What happens if the hose disconnects while the pressure washer (electric or motor) is running - will it damage the pump mechanism due to no water running thru the pump?

    • There is a fan at the other end of the motor shaft that cools the armateur and body. The water does not cool the pump it's also best to empty the pump of water before storing away. Run the metal pump for a few seconds without any hoses attached. This will prevent corrosion and calcium build up.

  • Your newly purchased Ozito High Pressure Washer 2030psi 1800W has a maximum flow of 7L/min. So just make sure that your garden hose flow is at least 7L/min at the end of the pressure washer inlet.

  • Any decent garden hose should do the job.
