Using NFC Tags to Automate Processes

Im wanting to add a few NFC tags at my house but have no idea how to automate them. Some main ones im thinking is

Tap NFC tag to open garage door (saved me digging in pocket to get remote)

Tap nfc tag to play spotify (my car does not auto play spotify)

Mute phone where i place my work phone after hours.

There are a few apps on the Google Play store, that allow you to edit/write tags.

There are different types of tags too, I recall.

can save little more time by saying google than reaching out to phone and tap. i mean you can say while doing something else.

This is true, but not always best.

I'm watching tv and the home assistant doesn't hear me. Or people around me are sleeping and I'm having to loudly shout commands. Sometimes physical buttons or the like are still very useful.

  • Yeah mate you need to get IFTTT with airtags and you're golden.

Google "home automation" and have a good read to see if this is what you want and also the different levels of automation.

I bought my last lot of NFC stickers from nfc-tags.com.au (from a deal here on OzB) but it looks like they are no more :-(

I use NTAG215 ones for bnasic automation (eg one on the bedside table to put my phone into DND, then close all the roller blinds, then start a sleep timer for my bedside lamp etc) and travel tasks (eg the "leave home" one in our cars can be tapped to force connection with the in-car wifi then generate a Glympse email/SMS then have Google/Waze prompt for destination then fire-up Tidal for tunes).

  • Depends on how deep of a rabbit hole you want to go down:

  • Home Assistant. Haven’t needed NFC for anything I’ve wanted to do yet.
