On sale is this budget friendly Android tablet from Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi that's cheaper than last time. There's a 6GB/128GB version available for US$225.27 (~A$334.129) if you want a little extra RAM. If you're looking for general use, playing media like Netflix in HD and a bit of gaming, then this is a good option. Plus it has more premium quality control over some cheaper brands.

Featuring Android 12 (MIUI 13 for Tablets), Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD, 10.61" 2000x1200 display with 90Hz refresh rate & 400nits brightness, 4GB or 6GB RAM, 128GB storage (supports MicroSD), MediaTek Helio G99 CPU, 8000mAh battery with 18W PD charging, 4 speakers with Dolby Atmos, 8MP Front & Rear Cameras, WiFi AC, Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C.

The downsides of this tablet is that there's no GPS and the MediaTek Helio G99 is a weaker CPU than some Qualcomm counterparts. The Helio G99 however is more power efficient so it offers good battery life paired with the 8000mAh battery and can still handle games. In terms of reviews this one covers it well

Previous post was for "Global" version - anybody know what (if any) is difference between that and this "China" version?

    • +2

…Would like to know this too

      • OP should know, he's the expert.

    • Found the answer… after going to great lengths.. of scrolling down..

" china rom only support English and Chinese Now.

Global ROM, support for multi-language (English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Chinese, German, Ukrainian, Italian, POLISH, Turkish, Japanese, Hebrew, Arabic) Google Play service and OTA Update.

(Unlocked bootloader for global ROM installation, Netflix, some banking apps may not be supported.)
      "

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I'm interpreting that is…

'Only the global ROM supports Google Play and OTA updates… And you're welcome to load the global ROM if you want'

      ???

      • Late reply. CN ROM supports Chinese and English languages, OTA updates, Widevine L1 etc. The "global ROM" is a 3rd party ROM with additional languages installed, unlocked bootloader and Widevine L3.

        • Ohhh … 3rd party ROM…
          That means opened-box then :(

          • @wildchill: Yeah. This deal was CN ROM so it should have been safe.

      • China rom no longer has Google Play in mi store app, replaced by OurPlay to install google app, but even Chrome doesn't work, it says risk app not supported in mainland etc.

  • Coming up as $193.49USD with Tax. Anyway to get the price listed in the deal?

  • Dammit, got caught up in black Friday spending and bought the previous deal!

  • Is this a good tablet to watch Netflix, Disney or other streaming services?

  • any noticeable performance diff between 4gb and 6gb?

  • Need to neg this as the AliExpress description is wrong. the Chinese rom does not support google play anymore, it is replaced with OurPlay 'app' that's like knockoff version of official google play, it does not even allow Chrome to run due to compliance risky policy on the lates miui.

    • Then you should read the voting guidelines. Your first sentence is what a report is for.

However that's good to know regardless. Must be something new by Xiaomi.

      • You mentioned widevine L1 on global rom: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/741569

but here you said global rom is 3rd party? and widevine L3: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13142197/redir

        • Official global vs unofficial global which this is as I learned later from others.. I don't buy these tablets so i rely on what others say and can't help it if sellers lie about their specs. Ideally people should do their own research.

          Pretty easy to reflash anyway

@Clear: how to reflash and where to get the rom?
