What Are People's Experience with MSI Warranty?

After having my Lenovo Black Friday purchase laptop deal cancelled I was looking at buying a different brand, and MSI was on my radar. One of the things I liked about Lenovo is their warranty service. Yes ACL trumps warranty but in practice getting a machine fixed under ACL is difficult, stressful and time consuming. Whereas Lenovo offers on site repairs which have been useful despite a less than perfect experience.

Well I took a look at MSI's terms and conditions and was a bit taken aback. MSI has only a 3 Month warranty for some parts? What are other people's experience with MSI warranty repairs?

I note my laptop would be covered under a 2 year warranty but what kind of warranty is it from a company that puts such clauses on their warranty conditions on their website.

"Free warranty for hardware includes: Motherboard, Graphics Card , NB , Communication, CE, OSD, Barebone, multimedia and server. For other peripheral equipment like USB mouse, battery, etc., and accessories like microphone, headphone, etc, a three-month free warranty is provided for standard warranty period."

"1.4 Circumstances where free maintenance service is not provided
In any of the following conditions, whether the Product is within the free maintenance time-limit or not, the Company may refuse to provide the maintenance service, or may request you pay related parts and labor charges, as well the to and from shipping charges;

You are unable to present the Product's warranty card, purchase receipt or invoice for the prove of Product still within the warranty period;
The warranty card has been altered or its date is hard to recognize;
The Product is not acquired from an authorized distributor of the Company or is acquired from illicit sources;"

"Chapter 4: Governing Law; Construe
This agreement shall be governed and construe according to the laws of Taiwan , Republic of China."

  • MSI won't accept responsibility of a monitor returned for Repair/Service, unless sent in Original Box and packaging.

  • Dell xps range have next business day onsite warranty not sure how they handle ACL after the 1 year warranty finishes

  • They were very responsive when I messaged them about my laptop having a problem about 2 years after I bought mine. Had something replaced. But they are also located near to me (they are in Silverwater) so I could go in to drop off my laptop and had it assessed while I was there. I was very happy with their after sales service.

    Edit: I actually looked up my emails. I got a fan replaced and the monitor replaced (for some dead pixels) -these were 2 separate occasions. And despite having to fix things twice I am very happy with my laptop (Stealth GS65)

  • bought mine from HN and they refuse any warranty anyway
