Hi OzBargain!

I've recently launched my app JobScope, to help with managing your job search.

To celebrate the launch, I'm giving OzBargain Apple users 1 year of Premium access for free.

Apple redemption link: https://apps.apple.com/redeem/?ctx=offercodes&id=6444258578&…

After you have redeemed the offer code, you may need to use the 'Restore Purchases' option inside the app, you can access this option inside Profile, and then Subscription.

Unfortunately promo codes on the Google Play Store are limited to a maximum 90 days, so I'm only able to offer Android users 90 days free.

Google Play Store Promo Code (90 days free): OZBARGAIN
You can redeem this code when purchasing a subscription inside the app.

Google Play Store Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.jobscope.jo…

Ongoing costs:

  • Free (with some limits applied)
  • Weekly Premium ($1.99)
  • Monthly Premium ($5.99)
  • Yearly Premium ($49.99)

If your subscription lapses, you can resubscribe at anytime and all your historical data will be available!

  • I haven't tried the app yet, but from the screenshots it looks neat.

    • Thanks mate, happy to take feedback from the community to help with the development!

  • How do you use it ? Any video instructions ?

    • I haven't created any video instructions as yet, but that's a great idea, thanks for the feedback!

May want to put the link to the android app too.
    $50/year that's steep.
May want to do monthly sub instead, especially since your app aims at solving a seasonal purpose

    • +2

Thanks for the feedback, have added the Android app link.

The app is free to use, and the subscription removes some limits. It's very much a seasonal purpose, and for that reason exactly, we offer weekly ($1.99) and monthly ($5.99) subscription options inside the app. The annual price was mentioned as the offer was for a year free :)

      • Maybe highlight this in your post.

I wouldn't take the yearly offer even for free (mainly using LinkedIn for job search - and happy with my current job)

But knowing there are some free features I may give it a try, for tracking all the workplace portal various organisations are using for managing their own career portal.

        Good luck OP

        • Thanks mate for the feedback! Have updated the post to reflect this.

This is literally Linkedin with a windows file system

Good luck getting anyone to pay $50

    • Wut.

    • +2

Google sheets is the real startup killer

    • Thanks for the feedback, we do have a free tier which I imagine will satisfy most users needs for the app. The core purpose of the app is quite different to LinkedIn so it may be worth checking the website for further information :)

      • -3

Come on you can do better than that. What value proposition are you offering over what is already available?

You've literally whipped up an app that a 12 year old could do with an online course and a weeks worth of programing.

You could have at least made a hosted web app so its cross platform and available on windows where the person will literally be managing their resume.

        • -2

          Why would you want this?
          Who uses linkedin on windows?
Who uses salesforce on windows. Most sales wouldn't touch a MS device.

        • +2

Happy to go into specifics. We do have a web app on the backlog but we have some dependencies with one of the SDK's we use that is preventing that at the moment.

At the moment, the way you'd manage your job search is with a combination of Google Sheets (tracking where you applied, how you've applied and keeping note of specific details), a notes app (for preparing for interviews or taking notes during an interview) and then a cloud file service and your own file structure for storing and cataloging which files you used for which job.

The idea of JobScope is to bring all of those elements into a single place, this may or may not be of value to you depending on how you apply for a new job and manage your job search.

LinkedIn is used to search for jobs, or network. It will show you where you've applied (and only if the job is through LinkedIn) but not much more than that.

You're acting like these are huge problems. I would say migrating data from where you store you and maintain your resume is more of a hinderance.

You can also run all your tasks Excel(Tracking, notes etc) and a file system on a PC and be on the same platform the whole time as your resume.

            • @caramellokoala: Thanks for the feedback, as with most things, some people will find more utility from it than others. If you have a process you use and are happy with, then you'd have no need for an application such as this.

                • +3

@caramellokoala: Mate, OP is taking the comments pretty well, you're the one getting upset about this post. If it's not for you, there are plenty of other posts to comment about.
You're not showing us anything really, you're not that special :-D

                  • -5

@ShouldIBuyIt: I'm asking him to provide a benefit to his app over existing software and all he's given is a vague " it aggregates functions" after all he's asking for $50/Yr

                    you're the one getting upset

Nice strawman. Show me where I used any emotive language in any of the posts?

You're not showing us anything really, you're not that special :-D

                    What does this even mean?

                    • +3

                      @caramellokoala: Here is one example

                      go buy google ad space

                      Nice passive agressive.

                      What does this even mean?

Pretty much that you're not adding any value.

Now your next answer is gonna be that I don't add value neither. Here, saving you some time so you can go comment somewhere else

                        @ShouldIBuyIt:

                        Nice passive agressive.

Wait am I being passive aggressive or upset? Which one is it?

Pretty much that you're not adding any value.

And your the self appointed OZbargain comment gatekeeper are you?

                        I don't add value neither

                        …..

                          Semantic really.

your the self appointed OZbargain comment gatekeeper

Interesting, cause you seem to be the OZbargain post gatekeeper. Also grammar matters.

Not really. they're two entirely different things.

                            Also grammar matters.

                            I don't add value neither
                            agressive.
                            gonna

                            Something something glass houses?

          • +1

@jobscope: The biggest opportunity I can see is automated injesting of data.

For example, it would be great if each user had an email address, to which they could forward emails from jobs they’ve applied for. This would remove some of the complexity and manual handling required to add data to the application, as most job application site could easily have the email format understood and programmatically read in to a new record.

A good example of this method is TripIt, where people can forward travel, reservations, and it in just the data to add into their travel.

            • @thewinchester: Great idea mate! I’m a TripIt user and love this feature.

        • +1

I await your attempt at making an application in 5 days.
I took a few days off the week you think it would take a 12 year old to make it in since I am assuming you are older than 12?
Then again, I’ll let you have the whole week since your comments are on par with a 12 year old :)

Thanks OP for putting the effort into making an application for those who may find it useful.

        • I agree with @caramellokoala this app is a kinda useless.
Like, you subscribe to it yearly, find a job then what? It becomes a useless subscription.
I do appreciate you putting your effort in making an app OP. I really do. And I think this will serve you well as an experience in software development and entrepreneurship.
But what I think you haven't done is a market research to see if this would be really a thing. I hope I'm wrong and you make a lot of success with this app, and lots of people get to benefit from it. I just don't see it happening, considering the many tools already available.

I must say this is a rort if you think it’s worth $50 a year. Looks overly simple for something of that that value.

    • Thanks for the feedback, we do have a free tier which I imagine will satisfy most users needs for the app. The price mentioned is because that's the annual price, and the OzBargain offer is for a free year of premium :)

  • So if someone uses this and finds a job, do they need to keep paying $50 a year just to have their data stored until the next time they look for a job?

    • They don't! It's free to use with some limits in place, but if you were a subscriber, all the data remains in place, and you can resubscribe when you're next looking for a job and need access to the data that is outside the free tier. There's also weekly and monthly subscription options, as I know some people will only need access to the premium content for a few weeks.

  • +1

sorry this app doesn'tseem to do much….

    • +1

This is where you are wrong, this earns $50/year for the app devs.

    • Further information can be found on our website about functionality: https://jobscope.io

  • I personally hate the subscription model unless you are providing a streaming or high volume computing bandwidth service to the user.

    • We offer a free tier if you don't like the subscription model :)

  • Thanks Op, subscribed and will give it a go, can you pls confirm the process to cancel so it doesnt renew automatically, there is nothing on the subscriptions /Account tab to cancel, thnx

  • Thanks OP. Subscribed for the year as it’s very useful to me

    • Thank you, glad you like it!

  • I am assuming you are storing user data including contacts and PII via cv in the cloud ? If that is the case the get proper pen test done if you haven’t already. Hopefully you don’t have any insecure APIs or S3 buckets exposed waiting to be exploited.

    • +1

We've taken a multilayered approach to information security when architecting the app, and have various methods in place to protect our users data, but in summary, all user data is encrypted at rest and in-transit, permissions have been structured using least privileged access which includes the APIs.

      • Good that you have considered those. Perhaps at this stage to a self assessment and publish it to your users via your website/app (just an extract) to give them assurance that their data is secure. Once you scale up looking into a proper assessment as it cost $$$$$.

        • That's a great idea, will do! Do you have a recommendation for a self assessment format? As I've only used third-party pen test/vulnerability assessment services in the past.

  • +1

Struggling to understand the value proposition here — are there API feeds for job applications from various portals (ie. SEEK/Indeed/Jora etc) that sync to this app, or stats, insights, etc, that actually make my job search more efficient/effective? What is your roadmap for future features that add value to to the subscription we will eventually pay for?

It feels like you've monetized what is effectively a CRUD side project.

    • At the moment the process of adding jobs is manual, but the long term vision is that jobs you've applied for will automatically import from the various job boards and ATS systems. As you can imagine, there's many thousands of job boards globally, and many ATS systems. Plus the lack of availability of APIs with some job portals (or prohibitive cost to use them) has meant that it's manual for now as an MVP.

  • what's so special on this app? I can't find any in the description. and price is WOW for this purpose. There must be something speciallll
