    shouldn't JW provide the warranty?

As far as I know under consumer law, you can ask them to sort out the warranty as you bought from JW and they are obliged to do so.

Them telling you to take out up with the OEM is a cop out (that l what lots of retailers try).

      • cop out

No, it's illegal. I believe they have to support for 12mo. Beyond that however they're allowed to say "go ask the manufacturer", I don't think they have to support the full warranty? (I could be wrong on this bit however)

        • Under the ACL, as a consumer, you have a right to seek redress for warranty defects from the retailer or manufacturer. Your choice. Both are obligated to assist. The retailer is obligated to follow up with the manufacturer. The 12 month express warranty is legally a sham because the law expects a computer to last a great deal longer under normal circumstances.

          • @[Deactivated]: 12mo is pretty much a minimum, with a "reasonable duration" clause on top (I don't have the exact wording on me). This is why JB typically offers 2 years on stuff >$1k.

12mo on a $1500 laptop is honestly probably crap, and if you complained to an Australian retailer, they'd possibly help you. On Aliexpress, they probably wouldn't even reply to you haha.

      • this is the same thing that got msy done in 2 times (or was it 3 times) ACCC doesn't mess around

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H Mobile Processor (3.3 GHz~4.2 GHz)

    Is it 5800 or 5600?

    • 5800H

A5-K1-BAU2150SB is the model number that can be verified on Google

  • Says "AMD Ryzen 5000 HX-Series" under key features and then 5800h on the title and 5600h on the list under key features. and R7 on specifications. Wtf is going on?

Edit: Can someone let me know if there are max-q variations of 140tgp 3060s? That seems a little odd.

  • I'm waiting for a good refurb motherboard deals from JW Computers.

    • not any other retailer? does it have to be a refurb motherboard, why not brand new?

      • brand new ones are so expensive now, not worth the money for it.
JW used to have good refurb m/b like Gigabyte Aorus Pro/Master around $150.
I have one B550 Aorus Master from JW, Refurb, still working strong. Just need another one of this. Waiting..

  • Actual specs. 5800H, RTX 3060 130 Watts, 49 Wh battery, 2x m.2 slots + 2.5" drive slot. 2.12 kg

JW got the title right, but the spec sheet is wrong. Seems to be AU exclusive. Just google the model #. Minus "-RFB" (refurbished) at the end for spec clarification.

An overall decent deal considered full powered mux switch + 240hz panel. Point to be made that due to lack of mux switch its highly unlikely one would be able to take advantage of the high refresh rate screen - disabling optimus have a bigger impact on frames the more fps intensive a game is, so games like csgo/valorant/league etc would see up to 40% of gains where the differences would be much smaller on a non fps intensive, gpu heavy game like say cyberpunk for which you are just aiming for a smooth 60 fps so higher hz dont matter here.

With that said, this is an old chasis, it's not a Gigabyte design but a Clevo (metabox is an rebrand of them) chasis from like 2017 which was originally designed to take in 1660ti-I remember jarrod did a video on that particular metabox sku as well. As such you are going to see below average temps for certain-as is evident with the review that OP linked. Definitely would suggest using AATU to manage your thermals.

Oh and just one point being that the battery on this is pathetically small so even with an amd chip you are going to see terrible battery life. But again compromises had to be made somewhere at this price point.

    • *Brain freeze writing the first line sorry this machine don’t have a static mux switch

  • assuming Referb = good as new
This could be a better deal than the HP Victus.
I think the Victus was only 90W GPU.. However the Victus screen is probably a bit better.

Yes, am wondering if this is better than HP Victus which I ordered but haven't picked up yet.

For $50 more this has 130w vs 95 rtx3060. That has 1tb drive with room for 2 more, vs Victus with 512gb and one open spot for storage. Not clear on mux switch for each or what that means

Same processor for both. Not clear if one case better than other and seems mixed about which better for cooling.

This looks like can support 3 external displays (USB C, HDMI 2.0 and DP V1.4) versus 2 for victus (USB C and HDMI 2.1).

This is refurb, but both only 12 month stated Manufacturers warranty

    Looks like this is 240hz, 6ms, 330cd/m brightness, about 850:1 contrast. Victus is 144hz, 12ms, 350 cd/m, 0.5 inches bigger and 1100:1 contrast.

Which is better? Is this worth extra 50? Thx

    • Victus has better connectivity perhaps.. Like HDMI2.1 rather than 2.0.. However if the spec sheet is correct, this appears to have 2.5G ethernet.

    • This laptop appears to be a bit chunkier, which could actually be a good thing for cooling, assuming it will mostly just sit on your desk.

    • For gaming this should be better just because of the GPU power. If you will usually use the laptop screen then the HP would be nicer to look at.

  • Do these refurbs have dents and scratches?

  • assuming I missed the previous HP victus deal (with 3060). Is it a good option?? (considering this a refurbished)

    • +1

personally i think it is reasonable, however you are getting a slightly smaller screen, bigger SSD, slightly higher purchase cost and have to pay delivery fee.

warranty should be same as both Victus from HM and current deal is 1 year warranty
