Melbourne Auction House for Antique Radios and Toys Recommendation

I have a lot of old vintage radios, parts, etc and toys that I have to start selling before downsizing.

Just wonder if anyone has some experience selling vintage items at auction.

I have seen some that just bundle up lots of bits and sell them for virtually nothing. I'd prefer to sell separately and get a reasonable price.

Also be interested in commissions. I hear some are asking 40%. Do you know of any that specialise in the vintage market and don't rip you off.

All input appreciated.

Thanks

no, sorry, couldn't use them on moral grounds

  • Don't forget to check Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree. Antiques haven't been fashionable for a while now so people are selling genuine antiques for a song. Lots of fake antiques too.

  • I don't have much experience selling but I buy a lot of weird obscure junk like vintage toys and collectibles, mostly stuff from between 1950s-90s. I buy a lot of it from eBay.

  • Wanted to take them all to one place and for them to sell the items. Don't want to individually sell them, pack, send etc.

    Getting past it!!

  • Auction houses should be no more than 22% commission for sellers plus lotting fees ($1-3 per lot). Average is around 16.5%.

Shop around. Look at past sales. Who has experience selling these items? Do they have a specialty sale coming up that they could be included in?

Many will do bulk lots - you need to ask and ensure you have final approval before incurring costs.

Get the items assessed, both by the auction houses and independently, especially for radios.

Local radio clubs often have sale days which might provide a better selling venue. Toys, I'd need more specifics.
