Kogan Mobile eSIM Issues (SOS All The Time)

I bought the Kogan $40 starter kit with eSIM two days ago and ported my number from Amaysim (which was also eSIM) to Kogan.
But after disconnecting with the old eSIM, the new eSIM always shows SOS.
Called Kogan support and sent email to swap to a new eSIM card many times, doesn't help. Restart and upgrade iphone system to v16 doesn't help also.
I installed many eSIM on my phone and all are goes well except the one with my previous number.

Has anyone faced the same issue before or any other clues?

When I call my number, it always say "Your call couldn't be connected. Please check the number". I think it might not be the issue of eSIM but Kogan support said no issues with porting or something else.

Now I'm waiting for a physical sim card which would take a few days. Super upset and anxious. Not sure if the physical sim card works or not.

Update: The issue has been partly solved. After waiting for a week to prove that it is a porting issue, Kogan Customer Care helps me to port my number properly without any credit inside. It was fine at least my number is back so that I can change to another provider.

  • Does anyone has a used Kogan physical sim card in hand and lives in somewhere close to Kingsford?

You know Kingsford is a suburb in three states, right?

    • Thanks for reminding lol. I'll update it now.

Fun fact: according to the 2021 Census the populations of the suburbs named Kingsford across the states are NSW: 13,492 , SA: 58 and WA: 261. Using basic and probably incorrect probability if a person says they're from Kingsford without clarifying the state there is a 97.69% chance that they are referring to NSW

        lol
Is any fun fact for guiding me to solve my esim card issue as well?

  • I moved from amaysim (esim) to Kogan on 1/12/2022 and had exactly the same issue. Kogan advised me there is an outage in my area until 6/12 (which was BS). Not a great welcome I thought!

I tried a few things suggested online and by Kogan. I think at last resetting the network settings worked. I can’t recall exactly the steps as I tried so many things. I think I deleted my old amaysim esim from mobile settings first and then reset the network settings.

When I was having issues, I noticed my mobile setting was showing both Esim listed. Amaysim was showing on and Kogan was off. When I swapped it, SOS changed to VODAau.

    I have iPhone 13Pro.

    • Thanks buddy!
I just tried to reset my network settings but it doesn't help still.
I deleted my old Amaysim esim when I saw that the both esims have no service a few days ago. I think that it might be one of causes but it was not my case (sooo sad).
At the last attempt, I deleted the old eSIM (which shows SOS), upgraded to ios 16 from ios 14 for my iPhone 12Pro, then went to add an eSIM, scanned the new QR code which been told that it was been assigned successfully. The issue remains the same.

Were you trying call you old number when the eSIM showed SOS? Would you remember what the reply? And may I know what area in an outage?

  • I have had no end of trouble trying to activate the same Kogan $40 esims deal. I have failed on 6 or so attemps to scan the QR codes so that they lead to a place where you can input the confirmation 4 digit code. In the end I gave up and entered my information without scanning a code.
I received an account "Welcome" email and my number seemed to port but my phone didn't work. In fact I was in a worse situation than having no sim. I could not even move to a new provider as I could not receive an sms.
At the same time I fell victim to some scammers and had to chop up 2 credit cards.

Customer Care did not seem to have a deep undertanding of esims and solutions. Told me to email privacy@tpg…. with all my codes and they would fix.

Started to feel really stupid as indicated by falling for identify yourself with your email and credit card trick.

Kogan admited to scammers being rampent and Kogan sending emails without codes but did not say heaps of people are in deep shit like myself.

I thought what are you suppose to scan the qr codes with. I tried qr scan apps, my phone camera and even the settings feature where you say I don't have a sim. The latter yielded a 20 digit code a provider could use to install the esim but Customer Care did not want it.

So if you think it's crap having a Pixel 7 pro without 2 sim card slots and wished you had never heard of esims or Kogan. Think of the mess I am in.

We are in the same boat… I can only wish that the physical sim card will work eventually.

  • Problem solved:
I dialed *#06# on my phone which showed what sims were actually installed on my phone and I instructed Privacy… to put my ported phone number with this correct esim.
The *#06# trick takes the mystery out of esims as you then know what is in your phone just like you do with a physical sim. Telling Kogan Customer Care what esim you last scanned is imprecise in yielding the correct data. They could save themselves a heap of effort telling customers to do this.

    • Thanks! The thing is Kogan Customer Care insists that it was issue related to eSim and denied to check further.
They told me that there is nothing they could do and my number will be back once I get a physical SIM card.
They sent me a SIM card with express delivery but it took a week.
I got the physical SIM card, sent email to Privacy to activate, got the confirmation of activation, turned out that it doesn't help.
Then Kogan Customer Care said that it was a porting issue…
After a few hours waiting, my number is back finally but there is no credit inside…
Soooo sick of Kogan, will change provider soon.
