  • Ahh - will be gifting watches to my groomsmen and this is a really tempting one

    • +3

Am I one of your groomsmen?

    • If you need an extra groomsman, I can definitely fill in.

We're all part of the OzB family

    • Me too, i can fill in as groomsmen if you need one

Hi Lug to Lug, where do you find the lug specs?

Hey babe. I just Google the ref - take out the trailing J or J1 if itโ€™s a Seiko. Then go to the result from the intl Seiko website.

  • Nice one.

Wish it was the SRPG03J though, I much prefer the white/gold scheme.

How does this not have sapphire crystal glass…

    • That's Seiko for you haha

      • surely can get an aftermarket swap

      • Do they have any sapphire watches? I know I'm going to scratch it before I even get it on my wrist. It's the main thing stopping me from getting one. I know you can polish it but it'll be every damn day for me…

        • i know some Presages do. my SNE587P night vision also has sapphire

    • Very poor not having sapphire crystal on an $825 dress watch. I'd look for something else. All those extra markings on the chapter ring are unnecessary too.

Plenty of micro brands and homages can provide sapphire crystal for $100.

  • Tempting..

  • At the rate these deals are going, does anybody think they should just jump to the big boys club and drop 5 to 10k on a watch and be done with it until another 40 starbuy deals later?

    • +1

The problem is that you're never really done. Thought of dropping 5k on a Tudor but also thought, 10k could get a Rolex ๐Ÿ˜…

      • yeh It's the old quality v quantity thing. Convincing yourself is another story. I guess this is how we made watch consumerism a 'hobby'. Not that they need it, but once the fashion industry relabels themselves as world's most popular hobby, we're screwed.

      • It's a valid point, 5k is just scratching the surface of high end watches, even oris costs more than 3k now.

I'd be happy with a Black bay 50 fauxtina and leave it at that. Still good having a variety of cheaper watches to choose from .. can get a heap for that price, but the minimalist in me wants to keep the collection to about 6 (plus a few G-Shocks and a Fitbit I don't really count). A one in one out system is good, or don't end up wearing them just hoarding.

    • +1

nope. i simply don't have 5k to throw around. so i carefully consider watches that are within the target price range and that i 100% want….then chuck it on afterpay ;)

      • +1

I'm sure you do or will have 5k but just not all now or all at once. Given enough time you'll have to 50 x $100 to throw around so if you managed to stop buying many cheaper things you could get one expensive thing?

But now I'm just making a point for delayed gratification and nobody wants to do that

        • +1

Pretty sure I know my financial situation, and even if I did have 5k, there's other more important things I'd be spending it on. I'm not just buying a bunch of "cheaper" watches in the name of instant gratification - might be "cheap" for some but this the range I'm happy with, probably for the rest of my life if it has to be. I haven't sold a single watch since I started this hobby last year, and not planning to either.

Don't think I'd be spending $5k on a watch anyway even if my finances improve drastically. Doesn't mean I can't admire or appreciate them.

Different people approach watch collecting differently; there's no right or wrong way.

          • @tdw: Yeh i get you now. It just sounded like you didn't have 5k. But you have 5k, but only to spend responsibly and not all on watches! On the other hand, it takes a lot of self control to save and buy that one stupidly expensive watch and forgo the others.

I think the only way to go wrong collecting watches is if you do it to have others see it/status or bragging rights rather than for your own satisfaction. That's pretty much life though.

            • @mit:

              Yeh i get you now.

              yeah nah you still don't.
read it both comments carefully again.

              • @tdw: Depends if you are a minimalist or not and like one watch or 10 cheap ones
