    Banned?

    • Everyone ramen calm. Site is not banned.

      • +5

Can OP @oznewbie clarify what does it mean by banned?

        • +1

Sorry, should have clarified. The email I received from Ippudo opens a site that I can’t link here because OZB says it’s banned.

The offer is legit though, it’s been offered before, as noted by another poster below.

From the wording of the ad, this is the last of their monthly $10 ramen offer during Covid, of which I was previously unaware. At least for the time being, although with their price increases in recent times, it’s likely we’ll pay more than $10 next time.

Edit: Mod has changed screenshot to Facebook.

        I can't believe udon this!

        • It makes for very soba reading

  • +1

I think they have it on 1st day of every month, so no more after Dec?

  • -7

    Arigato Mr. Roboto.

  • Why no more after 1st Dec?

  • Is their ramen any good, thick or thin soup base?

    • Very consistent Tonkatsu broth. One of the few chains that gets close to a proper Japanese ramen (and Japan's Ippudo is even better again).

      • +4

Tonkotsu. Tonkatsu is fried pork cutlet

        • Damn, can't believe I missed that.

  • +6

This $10 special ramen looks so basic….
Last time I had one of their ramen with pork slices, can't remember I added an egg or something extra then it ended up being close to $30. Flavour was ok, very rich and flavourful/salty broth that I struggle to drink all. Will not be back.

    • +16

Close to $30 what did you add?

      • +4

        an egg!

      • +13

        Two extra bowls of ramen?

      • +2

        Probably extra protein plus drink

      • $20

    • -1

Yeah the price is insane and I found the broth mediocre.

Ten bucks? Sure, nearly 30? Lol

Found 2 good ones in the city, I'll stick to those

      • +1

        Care to share?

        • +5

Probably shouldn't, cos of Covid. Just get your own bowl.

  • +3

I really like their bonito tonkotsu. It has become a ritual to get $10 ramen on the 1st of every month. Time to find new (discounted if possible) ritual now….

  • +11

Overrated and overpriced ramen. Should be $10 everyday.

    • -3

Yep this is roughly the price in japan everyday

      • +19

Lots of things are cheaper in the country the item came from but that’s not really useful if you’re not actually in the country. Also normally if the food is cheaper then people are also getting paid less so it sort of balances out.

      • Yeah, note that hospitality labour rates are usually about 1000 yen/hr (~$10) in Japan.

    • @browser What do you recommend that is amazing and good value?

    • +5

to be fair, we live in a country where an omelette at an average cafe costs $15. plus i haven't seen any $10 ramen in sydney in a very long time, so i'm pretty sure that can be considered a bargain these days.

      • Mappen and Tenkomori in the CBD (although several tiers below ippudo) serve pretty good ramen around the $10 mark

        • i always have udon at mappen i forgot they make ramen too. it's one of those restaurants where i feel like i'd be making a mistake ordering something else.

i want to try tenkomori though, i heard it's aight.

        • Tenkomori is pretty average. Mappen though is good

  • -1

Do they have msg in the soup? Gumshara in chinatown said no msg.

    • +16

      I hope so.

      • Me too. I love the umami taste.

        • -2

If they need to add msg the broth isn't that good to begin with.

    • +2

      Uncle Roger not approve!

  • Went to the Doncaster one, I've eaten a lot of ramen in my time and man, do I NOT rate that place for the cost.

If they're only charging ten, that is much more reasonable… Because with add-ons we paid over 20a bowl and the key part (broth) was just not up to it.

Ten bucks? One last chance guys, don't mess it up

    • Agree, $27 for a ramen that tasted average… And had a stomach ache afterwards too… Seems like a few others experience the same thing looking at Google review

  • +1

Never tried before. Might give it a shot

  • +2

Prepare to queue… Haha. Was thinking to go for dinner but probably not prepared for a long queue. :)

  • What type of ramen they allow for $10?

    • They have a difference menu on 1st

  • Which one the best flavour, any suggestion.

  • +2

Tried once in Doncaster their broth and noodles are good, a bit heavy to me, but TBH at $28 it's a No for next visit.
I rather to have a bowl of Pho full of meat, fresh veggies & a glass of 3 colors drink & few dollars to spare!

    • Pho full of meat, fresh veggies

heck yeah, i can hold off on the tricolor tho

  • PHO > RAMEN
    all day every day

    • Real Japanese Ramen > Pho

      • Real Pho>

        • Disclaimer: I haven't tried as you say "Real" Japanese Ramen" in Japan(?)
So where do you suggest here @superforever that is reasonably priced?
(I've seen Pho range from $15 and maxes about $20 nowadays.)

Had ramen only a handful times, some were Japanese spots. And were not very memorable besides "Itadakimasu" and something else the staff said every so often, taste-wise I wasn't blown away either, sometimes too umami or salty for me.

Good thing about Pho rarely goes wrong at any restaurant. I am salivating at how balanced it is and can clean up the entire bowl with broth. Icing on the already good cake is it can be made, sweeter, sourer, spicier, according to tastes with the condiments and sides really complements the versatility.

    • But chewy handmade Chinese noodles are best noodle

      • no doubt, moreso as in stir-fry personally

but we talking soup dishes, if im slurping it down every other bite better not be too chewy

    • I love both - but Ramen at $28 a bowl, yeah nah

  • +2

If you are in melbourne, Mr Teriyaki in QV is also very good and the guy who runs it always has a Bluetooth headset on, so you know he means business.

  • +2

    The lines are stupid.

    • Is it busy all day?

      • There was no queue at the Westfield Sydney store when I went 20 minutes ago

        • I'll scope out Doncaster in an hour, wife is hungry (this is a never ending thing tho)

          • @hamwhisperer: Can you check whether the Karaka-men has spice levels like the QV store please if you go? :) Apparently it’s not a thing in Sydney

      • At Macquarie Centre. Line’s longer than lunchtime ( I gave up for lunch but it’s mine at dinner!)

        • Currently a queue at Westfield Sydney. Central Park also had a giant queue at lunch

  • Anyone go to the QV store in Melbourne today? Big queues?

  • Is the veggie soba also $10?
