A new low, but nothing too dramatic, been around the 200 mark for a while now.

      $200 to $186 is quite a lot..

      • 7% to be precise…

  • very tempted !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very tempted too!!! However, the 1-star reviews on Amazon's product page worries me.
Anyone got one of these (USB3+2TB+WD Passport)? How does it hold up?

Buy it! Nothing to worry about, slim & very quiet when operate. Bought it when it was 200ish

Every portable hdd reviews on Amazon has lots of one star reviews. People treat them like flash drives and toss them around then expecting drive to last.

    • +3

Also, a few of those reviews are re: the software, not the actual drive itself.

    • The case feels a bit plasticy but out of, ahm, 3, 3 are working so far almost without issue.

One reset itself (I think - might've been the usb port) after over a day of constant operation/writing (backing up can be slow at times). Been working fine since then.

  • Bought a 1TB WD Portable HD from Amazon that arrived this week for $114 delivered, good enough for me;)

  • "Western Digital My Passport 2 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive -WDBY8L0020BBKNESN (Black) cannot be shipped to the selected address."

…..anyone know why? Trying to ship to Brisbane address here.

  • USB powered or AC powered? couldn't see it on the Amazon page…and how well do these hard drives travel when posted? Aus post can be pretty rough with parcels!

    • Portable = USB powered.
They usually refer to AC powered as "desktop" drives

    • Mine came in a Amazon cardboard box with a few air bags in it. The box was wet tho, luckily the WD passport packaging was waterproof

  • Got this one a few weeks ago for my PS3. Had to get a third party program to reformat it to FAT32 but it works really good now. Was a bit worried that some reviews on portable USB2/3 harddrives that the PS3 wouldnt power it. Only get 1.8TB out of it tho

    • 1.8TB is pretty normal for a 2TB drive… 1000MB = 1TB etc as far as manufacturers go… plus I think some is system reserved, even in a PC you'd only get that amount.

i got one of these a couple of months ago… write speed was sustained at about 100MB-110MB which i was pretty impressed with.
that was on the outside of the spindle, think its abouty 60 in the middle
still nice for a portable device.

  • wow. I didn't know they made 2TB 2.5" drives.
I'm tempted, but since I started using dropbox I don't really need the portability so much.

I'm hanging back for Bing Lee to re-stock 3GB USB3 Buffalo drives
