Hello Everyone,

Reward Gateway is running deals for Black Friday Weekend! Today it's JB Hi-Fi with an increase of 2.5% on eGift cards.

Here are some of the most common questions that tend to pop up (thanks to Chazzozz and WookieMonster for the original write up):

What is Reward Gateway?

Reward Gateway is an employee program that gives you access to discounted eGift cards and cashback across a large range of retailers.

How do I access Reward Gateway?

Your employer needs to be subscribed to this program before you can apply to access the program. Once you are given access, you can log into Reward Gateway through:

The dedicated website for your company, or The SmartSpending app on iOS/Android devices.

What is the transaction fee?

Transaction fees will vary depending on the type of card used to complete the transaction. The feedback I have been given by their support team is as follows:

MasterCard or Visa debit card: 0%
Standard MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0%
Premium / Platinum MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0.5%
Standard AMEX card: 1.5%
Premium AMEX card: 3%

Can I use prepaid gift cards (e.g. Vanilla Visa gift cards) as a payment method?

No. Reward Gateway requires all debit, credit and prepaid cards to support 3D Secure. Prepaid gift cards do not support 3D Secure, so they will be blocked by the payment processor.

What denominations of JB Hi-Fi eGift cards are available through Reward Gateway?

At the time of posting this deal, you can specify any denomination up to $4999. Larger amounts will be split across multiple cards.

How are the eGift cards delivered?

Electronically. Either print them from your account or use the SmartSpending app to display them on a mobile device. There is also a unique PIN associated with each one which you will need to input when redeeming a card.

Where can I use the eGift cards?

They can be used in-store or online. Note that only unlimited cards can be redeemed for online transactions but in-store is limited to 8 per transaction (subject to in-store discretion).

Is there a limit on the number of eGift cards I can buy?

Rewards Gateway will allow you to purchase up to the maximum amount on your first transaction each day, but as fraud protection on your account, the system will limit further transactions to only $300 for that day. Some retailers may also impose monthly limits so check the T&Cs of each one if you plan to spend big.

  • FYI: you can avoid the fees with certain cards, eg my ING Orange Visa Debit has no fees, but CBA Mastercard does, ymmv

Pretty sure this is documented somewhere on Ozb too. I just read the long details, but I think the Heading suggests you will get fees….

    • For me, savings cards no fee, but all my CCs will incur a fee

    • I use NAB visa debit and no fee.

    • Yep. Information regarding the Transaction Fee is included in the post. I never had to pay any fees with my CBA Awards Credit Card. Here’s the summary -

MasterCard or Visa debit card: 0%
Standard MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0%
Premium / Platinum MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0.5%
      Standard AMEX card: 1.5%
      Premium AMEX card: 3%

    • My sister's workplace employee rewards portal is a Reward Gateway platform and it accepts the Coles Mastercards with no additional fees. Love a good double stack on those cards.

      • Can you do split payments and use multiple Coles Mastercards in the one transaction?

        • Negative.

Depending on the gift card you're buying there's various purchase limits. Usually max 3 transactions per day or $1000 per week or First transaction can be up to $x and then second and third must be lower. It's usually spelt out fairly clearly for each supplier and you can structure your purchases accordingly.

Also, while it's true you can sometimes get 10% or 15% giftcards from supermarkets, this method allows you go specify the dollar amount right on the spot of purchase.

    • Also the limit is pretty high if you buy it in the first attempt

      • That's important to note - see the last point of the FAQ in the original post above. I've never been caught out myself, but I could see someone tripping over it if they're scrambling to get multiple deals in one day.

  • Can this be stacked with jb perks discount vouchers?

    • +3

Yep - You can use the perks code and then an unlimited number of JB gift cards when purchasing online at JB. Likewise in store.

How can you sign up for their membership if you are self employed?

    • -2

      You can't.

    • +2

You can buy a membership from API Leisure & Lifestyle for ~$10 per month.

      https://apiqld.com.au/

      • How's that related to RewardGateway?

        • +3

Because you get access to RewardGateway.

          • @3L Milk: I have access via API as my employer didn’t previously provide Reward Gateway access. They recently have now provided it, so I’ll probably cancel it in the new year unless I end up changing jobs.

            • @bargain ben: Out of curiosity, did you find it worthwhile? I’ve saved heaps with RG over the years but at $10/mth to get access you’d want to be using the discounts quite regularly to gain a benefit.

          • @3L Milk: Thanks. I understand the link now
