So the product I got was fault and I am most likely going to have to pay for shipping back.
it can cost up to $75 to send it via australia post so I am wondering if there are any cheaper options?

You may find that certain large private courier companies are actually cheaper than AP for shipping some types of stuff to major international destinations like the good ol' US of A.
My recommendation would be find a friend who's going there on holiday - or book one yourelf:).
Sorry, but international postage rates generally suck.
