Flat Pack Door Cupboard Headache

Dear flat pack experts, I bought myself this fine Luxo Living floating tv cabinet

https://www.luxoliving.com.au/leslie-180cm-floating-entertai…

And for the love of every deity - I cannot get the cupboard doors to align. I've spent more hours than I want to admi, adjusting, removing, swapping and checking part numbers..

And I have this:

The doors overlap. I believe Ive tried every adjustment possible.

Does anyone have an advice or secret knowledge?

Else it's table saw time.

  • Maybe that door goes on the other side flipped.

But I'm not the best to help - Had a similar issue like 10 years ago I think it was this, and tried a lot of things then paid a person on gumtree to help.

In that first photo, screw the screw on the right hand side clockwise, not the far right, but the middle one.

  • Are all 4 doors the exact same size?

Remove the hinges - can you place / hold the doors in the cavity without them overlapping?

Refer to this image adjust the door to the left a bit.

  • two doors are part 8. two doors are part 16. Have you got the doors mixed up?

Thanks all. The doors have holes at the top that line up with the magnetic mechanism, so they're definitely in the right place(and the numbers match).

I've tried adjusting the centre screw a zillion times, I think to every fraction of a mm every direction.

The doors are the same size and fit in individually!

I'm going to sleep in it and take another look, I must be missing something

        Bit of a weird reply

Agree, you should let them bite..

I'm going to sleep in it

Op said they are going to sleep in their new flat pack cabinet.

I'm of the opinion that it would be uncomfortable so I'm wishing them a good night's sleep.

Eeesh. I have nightmares of bed bugs after too many hostels in my youth. Now I'm both annoyed and terrified.

        • Relax my dude, bedbugs gotta eat too. :)

I think the hinges on the two middle doors are different to the hinges on the end doors. The end vertical pieces are flush with the top and bottom pieces. Therefore the end doors sits inside the end pieces and have different hinges. The middle vertical pieces are rebated. Therefore the middle doors sit in front of the middle vertical pieces and should have different hinges. These hinges should have a middle screw which allows you to move the doors left and right across the middle vertical pieces.

  • Im a qualified cabinetmaker, a lot of the people I went through my apprenticeship with don’t work in the industry anymore because people prefer to buy cheap Chinese junk, if it costs $280 including GST how much are they paying the slave labour in China? Aussie tradies are rip off etc

Your issue is actually pretty well shown on the plans, the straight hinges go on the internal doors the hinges with the bends in them (pictured) only go on the end panels.

    • I don't want to get into an discussion around the reasons I chose flat packs over a cabinetmaker but I very much understand how you feel :-)

On the instructions, next to second number 8.. that isn't a hinge, it's a drawer runner. I checked all the hinges after reading your post and they're all exactly the same.

      • The “I” hinge is straight the “k” hinge isn’t. In the plans at least, they may have sent you all the same hinges by mistake, the different hinges have a different projection in relation to the panel the hang off.

I've fixed it - I was thinking along Transient's thought pattern because of the diagram showing the rebated sections has the screws nearer to the front of the brackets. And if you squint, the non-rebated section has them at the rear of the hinge.

Another part talks about moving the door up and down, which is impossible if the screws are at the front.

So, I moved all of them to the back… adjusted the middle screw. It all fits fine.

Dodgy instructions…. Thanks everyone for the help and humor.

    • You're supposed to be asleep?

    • Thank god. Even I was losing sleep over this. I can rest easy now. Thanks for the update.
