CTP Renewal - How Much Information Is Required

Just renewed my CTP over the phone with NRMA but they didn't ask questions like how many km's does the car travel each year, private or business use, etc. They only asked about half of what the government greenslip quote service asks and they also came up with a cheaper quote than what the government site did for NRMA. Should I be concerned, as I'm worried I might not be covered in the event of an accident.

I would have renewed online but their online service kept erroring out no matter what device I used. Normally would have expected NRMA to be better than the rest of the insurers.

  • I'm no expert but I did notice when doing comparisons on CTP that different insurance companies asked different questions. The government tool obviously covers them all to give an accurate quote amongst all providers.

I wouldn't be worried you have answered everything they asked and I assume after you've renewed on the phone you've been sent an email showing you are covered.

    • They told me the email takes up to 30 min to arrive but hasn't after 1hr but Service NSW did update with the new CTP. Might chase them up if it doesnt arrive soon just so I can see what the CTP document says.

It’s CTP. It covers whatever the govt mandates (injuries to other people) and must be valid to renew registration.

They claim to ask all those questions to get you best price. I reckon that’s a scam, it’s more about getting your data.

Actually, just to clarify you are talking about greenslip aren’t you?

  • Sort of related… Just noticed they don't recheck demerit history on renewal…

    • That was a question they actually asked me

      • Initial policy yes.. but both NRMA and QBE sent through renewals with *proven nil demerit status. When I may have happened to accrue a few points earlier this year …😇

  • +1

whoever is the cheapest for CTP is my tip

    • Yep, NRMA was the cheapest so I went with them
