Amazon Basic Batteries Best Bang for Buck? What Are Your Recommendations

Hi,

I'm looking at buying bulk AA Batteries and almost jumping onto AmazonBasic 48 pack for $16.48. However, I'm just curious how they are fair to the competition. Are they comparable to something like Vatra, which you can find 30 for $11 at Bunnings or, are they crappy like Activ Energy batteries that Aldi sells?

Thanks!

Ladda from Ikea if you want rechargeable, and if you need that many you most certainly should look that way, Aldi for just batteries.

    • Yep this! I use eneloops for high drain stuff like a camera flash

      For disposable Jaycar batteries

  • can't speak for Amazon, but if you have Costco membership, their Kirkland ones are good. Rebranded Duracell.

Aldi batteries are crappy? Work fine for me.

    • I've only ever bought a bunch of AA's from ALDI once. They worked as they advertised.

I think the only other time I bought bulk AAs was from Bunnings. They were Varta - also worked as advertised.

Both of these were quite a few years ago.

    • Have not seen Aldi AAA or AA rechargeable batteries since before the pandemic.

      • They got them a few months back as 10 packs. They were keeping them behind the counter.

    • Yeah in my experience Aldi rechargeables are not bad at all.

They have a high capacity which is slightly higher than Eneloop Pro's and I have a bunch that I have used for many years and none of them have leaked or failed.
They do seem to lose capacity quicker than Eneloops though, but I think the extra initial capacity kind of makes up for it.

Can't say they are crappy at all. They are solid. Not sure if the ones you can find/buy today are the same though.

      • Ikea's Ladda batteries are/were Eneloop Pros in a different shrink wrap, although rumors say that they are being discontinued

        • Yeah I think that has been the case for awhile. Just never lived close enough to an IKEA to actually shop there.

    Want good batteries?
    Panasonic made in Japan
    everything else is a compromise!

  • vatra work fine, use to buy aa and aaa, but now use rechargeable lithium

  • Nobody uses rechargeables in tv remotes right?

I do. I haven’t paid for single use batteries in a very long time, probably 8-10 years.

      • You've persuaded me. Why not right? I have heaps of rechargeables.

    • I do too.
