$2500 MacBook Is Creaking after 1 Week

I just bought the 14 inch MacBook Pro just under a week ago from Officeworks for work and school.

Everything is great apart from it creaking every time I open the lid or move it around sigh. Will Officeworks give me a refund or replacement and how is this even a thing on such an expensive laptop!!!

    Take it back and ask.

It’s really up to the team member, I don’t think a creaking hinge would be classified as a major fault, so they may only offer to repair it.

  • Do you live near an Apple Store?

    • Yeah

      • Apple offers 90 day free phone support plus technical support on phone for warranties. I would suggest call Apple. If they suggest that it requires at deport repairs then you will have the option to take it to an Apple Store or arrange for a courier to pick up. I would say store would be better, because if they can they will fix it there for you. You will need to just make an appointment.
Also I have a question, why did you pick OzBargain to ask this question and not Apple or Officeworks. Did anyone suggest that you do, or you are a longer term fan of OzB so trust us. Genuine question. Nothing wrong in asking here and you are most welcome.

Ozbargain is the leading authority on creaky laptops and third party car insurance.

Is that patented Apple creaking sound or just generic creaking? I'd be concerned if it's generic.

P.S. prepare to have battery replaced, has happened to every Macbook in the office, few of them had to do it twice.

to attract your asian friends to come and fix it?

  • There isn't crumbs and stuff in the hinge is there?

  • Bring it to Apple

  • Thinking WD40 from SuperCheap, but I could be way (way) off target. lol

Yeah, the silicon based variety (thats why its called silicon valley)

  • Apple have now implemented a frog detection feature to void people's warranties, in line with planned obsolescence.

edit: oh, creaking, I thought you said croaking.

  • What did officeworks say when you called them?

  • You are covered by Australian Consumer Law, I would take it to Apple's Genius Bar and get it fixed for free. If there is a major fault, they will replace it as your the product comes with a one year warranty.
