Hi guys looking at the attached gaming monitor for my ps4 which i will be getting a ps5 soon. Is there anything currently on the market that you think would be better? Thanks
I picked up the same monitor this week for my PS5/WFH setup.
Build quality is nice. Display quality is very nice for me (although this is my first proper IPS monitor).
Getting it to display 120hz 1440p from the PS5 settings took a bit of fiddling around (basically disable AMD Freesync from the monitor settings; PS5 will limit you to 1440p 60hz otherwise).
One issue I have noticed is when the ps5 is booting up, there are a few pixels on the bottom left of screen that go dark to white, almost like a flicker/stutter motion. After the PS5 boots up, the issue doesn’t return.
All in all it’s a good monitor for the price, backlight bleed is actually very controlled, not flooding like some other monitors (e.g. my mates dell S2721dgf).
Impressed with it so far, time will tell how it holds up. Hopefully LG are good to deal with throughout their 3yr warranty.
Found the first issue:
Anyone having an issue when this monitor is receiving power from the wall, it will cause a buzzing in nearby devices such as DAC/AMP, headphones connected to the headphone jack of a MacBook Air (M1) which is not connected to the monitor in any way? Almost as if this disturbance is being transmitted wirelessly??
The issue is only eliminated when the power to the monitor is switched off from the wall.
I don't have this monitor so can't comment on that specifically.
I have had in the past though laptop chargers that when plugged in cause a high pitched buzzing/whining noise. I found that the nose is actually coming from the power brick portion of the cable (the black box part of the power cable).
If this is the case for you, then it's a lot easier to replace the power cable portion than the whole monitor
Thank you for getting back on this one. Yes the power brick could be the issue since it is a switching type. Having a bit of difficulty finding a power brick of the same output with the same 6.5mm connection into the monitor. Will update when some progress is made. Cheers
Hardware Unboxed do good reviews, and they just recently released a round-up video if your looking for alternatives - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFfxOfZ8T_U&t=546s
For that monitor specifically, the rtings review is here - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gp850-b
All in all, seems like a good monitor.
