Bankwest Zero Credit Card - 1% cashback for 6 months

I received a letter from Bankwest advising that for 6 months, we'll get 1% cashback on all purchases on the Zero credit card. I couldn't find any info on their website so it might be for existing card holders only.

Most reward credit cards are usually around 0.5% cashback (in form of gift vouchers or items, etc) so we'll probably use the Zero card now for 6 months instead of our usual Qantas FF card.

  • Before you go jumping to a new account, I strongly recommend you take another look at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/73866.

In particular, the bit that says "The new scheme, which was introduced in an amendment to the Privacy Act by the Attorney-General, Nicola Roxon, last month, will allow credit reporting agencies to add the following information: the date a credit account was opened; the type of each current credit account (mortgage, credit card, personal loan and so on); the date a credit account was closed; the current limit of each open credit account; and repayment performance history".

This suggests to me that credit agencies will be telling potential lenders, among other things, if you've been changing your credit provider regularly (suggesting that you may be maxing and moving, for instance).

  • Don't mess with credit cards, get a good one and stick with it.

  • It's all good guys. We already have the Zero card so we're not applying for it - I was just informing others.

We have no credit card debt - we use them primarily to maximise our offset and we always pay off the full balance by the due date! The rewards schemes are just an added bonus.

  • What is Casback?

    • Not sure what you're talking about? ;)

    • Sharia don't like it
      Rockin' the Casback
      Rock the Casback…

(For those who remember the 80s).

Most of us had no idea what the words were, except for three words in the chorus.

  • It was better previously with 5% of cash back on grocery purchase. I can basically get on average $50 every months, which is $5000 spending on this product. However, I paid $69 annual fee on my card and I am not sure if there's any fee on this Zero Credit Card

    • Yep, I'm loving my Breeze card too. 5% on groceries, petrol and utilities for 12 months. I normally get $30 cashback every month, all for a $69 annual fee.

      • Agreed - we're using this one as well for 5% cashback…we get about $60-$70 back a month.

Just realised for this one that the 1% cashback is only for a max of $10,000 spend during the 6 months so it's only $100 cashback anyway. No annual fee though so better than nothing I guess.

        • Bah, didn't realise it was limited to $100. Spent $9,500 in the first two months and was wondering why I only got $5 back in the third month LOL.

Back to using my normal card for the measly rewards again.
