Purchasing Glasses Online (Designer)

So I've been down to OPSM. They quoted me $550 including lenses and frames, In saying that it was basically $249 for Frames and the rest on Computer Lenses

What I want to know is…

I can purchase the same frames from the states, $120.00 (Ray Bans) from a great reviewed website including Intl' Postage.

But the lenses,

Can I get them somewhere else or would i need OPSM to fit them? you can get lenses elsewhere but the fact is, how does the people that make the lenses know what frames there going in?

If anyone has any experience and can help me. I'd be ever so grateful :)

  • clearlycontacts.com.au makes cheap glasses… if you're a first time buyer, you get it for free, just pay postage.

If you get your prescription from OPSM, you can get your frames made anywhere.

    • Watch out for clearlycontacts - they are not approved by all health funds (thats if you want to claim back from your healthfund)

    • Clearly Contacts has worked very well for us. It is a bit of a hassle the first time adding all your script details and working out the positioning issues of progressive lenses but the savings are great. Been very happy with their customer service and supply/delivery has been less than local bricks and mortar stores. They are a registered Australian provider and are covered by our health fund. Good Luck.

  • If you have graduated lenses, then my understanding is that a fitting is needed.

otticanet have lenses included in the price - i've bought from them a number of times before and they're very good.

    • Thanks for this site. For the exact models paying in Australia they are $249, but only $128.00 + Lenses. Beautiful.

2 Questions, what was the delivery time? and did you pay this Fedex charge all the public review sites are complaining about?

  • What are computer lenses? The normal lense with anti-reflective coatings?

    • I'm not sure, but they are optional and cost $249 instead of normal $99 lenses. They don't reflect the screen & some other features.

      • Do the other optometrists call them something else? 'Cos I didn't (or should that be couldn't) see that package at Spec Savers. Then again that was last year, is it new?

    • Google Glasses? I'd go for that option:).

  • If it's sunglasses you're looking for you can find the top brands like Ray Ban, on discount retail sites. With a short google search of sunglasses designer discount I'm sure you'll find some affordable options, hope that helps.
