Value for Money Mesh Wi-Fi

Hi

What is some good value for money mesh Wi-Fi systems? Looking to buy a set for my parent's 2 storey house, don't need all the bells and whistles for gaming or anything like that, just something that can reach the nether regions of the house that the current router is struggling to do.

There are too many options out there and I am struggling to understand the differences. I'm seeing mentions of Google nest (is that too outdated, it's been around a while right?), Deco etc….what's a decent one (maybe $200-300, but if can be cheaper that'd be great too)?

Also, do these systems come with a modem or do you need to buy one separately? They are currently using a modem router combo with their HFC connection

Thanks in advance!

I have an older google wifi (3 hubs) at my parent's large house since it was released and its been going strong.

I have the newer nest wifi (2 hubs) in my apartment now and its also been going fine.

Don't think they are the cheapest options but they work out of the box for me with minimal setup time.

TP Link Deco M5 is a good choice for a budget mesh. I haven't seen any deals for black Friday but might be some around.

Amazon Eero will be more future proof and are going for $300.

    Lots of other options too.

You won't need to buy a separate modem for HFC, nbn supplies this already. Just plug the router into it.

    • Thanks! Do you know how deco and and eero compare to nest?

Not personally. I hear the nest is easy to use but underwhelming performance. Probably won't affect your regular user though.

        Deco is solid and cheap.

Eero gets good reviews and is very fast.

We have deco at home at work. They are reliable and have great range even through thick walls

The fact is not many people have mesh wifi at home, more even so have they experienced different mesh wifi/s to share their views of its differences.
Suggest to go specialised computer stores and get their expertise like centrecom. Household TGG, jbhifi may advice better on electrics not computers.
Personally I’d get Google nest wifi because I’m into audio and I could play music every corner of home. But I don’t have house too big so don’t need one.

Think about your parents, they could play internet radios of their favourite languages or of home countries, if they usually do.

I really like the Google wifi pucks, and wouldn't have changed HOWEVER, they have a serious issue with a small number of NBN providers and will not be able to provide full speed. It's only ones that use PPPOE, of which there aren't many, but it did force me to change to the TPlink. Replaced it with an X55 System, which is going strong.
