Advice on Good Wi-Fi 6e Router

Hi all,

I need to buy a router during the Black Friday to replace my Asus AX88U that stopped working all of a sudden. I have multiple devices and the Optus modem I am using now struggles.
I was looking into Netgear RAXE500 (AXE11000), but noticed it’s a couple of years old, then found newer cheaper model RAXE300 but found that it does bot support remote management and also the Netgear products have parental control etc. on subscription.
I usually use media server, need 2.5 gbps gigabit port for NAS and prefer to be wifi 6e as I saw on TP link website WiFi 7 is around the corner.
Have plenty of devices, smart plugs lights google home stuff etc. and need something that can handle the devices.

Appreciate your advice.

  • I can only share my experience

Maybe not relevant to you as I'm talking about wifi mesh

    I bought deco X75

    Already had some deco X68

    Didn't quite work out

    X68 triband, 2x 5ghz
    X75 triband, 1x 5ghz 1x 6ghz

For some reason (I assume it's because of different bands)

But speed has been poor from connecting to X75 compared to X68

  • How big is the area that you do need to cover? How many wifi 6 clients do you currently have? What features are you looking for?

need 2.5 ghz gigabit port for NAS

    You mean 2.5gbe?
    I would get separate switch.

WiFi 7 is around the corner.

Don't hold your breath. It will be a while before it take off and become the norm. Iot devices mainly stuck with wifi 4 and likely be stuck for another 3-5 years

    • Yes sorry 2.5gbe
      Just a 3 bedroom unit

  • I have not used them and there are not too many wifi 6e routers in Aus at present. Do you need issues with your internet speed & wifi lags on a single router?

Netgear Nighthawk AXE7800 $599.20 on sale at present (jb hi fi) or
Netgear Nighthawk AXE11000 AX12 12-Stream Tri-Band WiFi 6E Routerr $879.20 on sale at present (jb hi fi) or
    TP-Link Archer AXE75 AXE5400 at officeworks $447 or
    TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro AXE5400 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E Mesh Router $399 1 pack or
TP-Link Deco XE75 (you probably can't buy 1 pack) or
Ubiquiti U6 Enterprise Indoor Wireless Access Point, WiFi 6E (may be not relevant to you)

My opinion is to get a cheap wifi6 router and use it as an access point or router connected to the Optus modem. I know lots of multi-gig routers should be available in Aus within 1 year

I use Xiaomi Redmi Gaming Wifi Router AX5400 Mesh Wi-Fi 6 2.5Gbps, use it as an access point connecting to the modem + add cheap 2.5 gbe switches (tplink / hasivo / qnap)

    • Legend, thanks heaps

    • -1

      How about none of those…

Just buy a couple of Belkin RT3200's when they're on sale, like they have been right now for around $80 something dollars including free delivery via Amazon. They are wifi 6/AX, they have mesh, they are cheap, and they support vanilla Openwrt.

  • Ended up buying Netgear Nighthawk RAXE300 (AXE7800) During JB extra 10% for $494. Does what I want 30+ devices no drop outs or issues.
