Any Cheap A3 Colour Inkjet Printers out There That Can Take Non-Genuine Ink?

Hi All,

In the market for an colour A3 inkjet printer, preferably somewhere in the $300 range or cheaper.
The other catch is that it'd be great if there was non-genuine ink cartridges available for it, or a way to refill the ink.

So far there's 2 Brother models for sub $300 on amazon black friday which look great, but they take LC432 cartridges, and there's absolutely nowhere i can find that sells compatible non-genuine ones for this. The genuine ones are quite expensive.

Other decent model i've found is the Canon PIXMA iX6860 which is also ~$300 on ebay atm, and there's non-genuine cartidges for this one, but there's one catch. It doesnt to auto-duplex printing! That's pretty damn annoying and a bit of a deal breaker.

Anyone have any ideas? There's like a zillion printer models out there with so many ink choices, i'm lost!

thank you in advance

your sage advice has improved my life immeasurably, thank you

  • HP Officejet Pro 7720 - is a scanner as well. Wifi. Uses generic ink.

    • nice one, thank you! looks pretty good. there's one at Harvey Norman for a strangely low $218 (its $400+ at some other places). Inks seem to be cheap too, and it does auto-duplex

  • other one ive managed to find is the PIXMA iX6860, which can be had on ebay for ~$310 at the moment. Doesnt do scanning and all that, but apparently a high quality photo printer that does A3, duplexing, and inks are also cheap.

  • Above your $300 price, but I have a Brother MFC-J6930DW and use non-genuine cartridges from rihac.com.au
Older model and there aren't many available, but can see one online at techbuy.com.au for $389 + delivery

I use the same cartridges in my A4 printer. I get the XXL compatible as they have allot more ink for not allot more

  • I paid $299 not on special from OW about 6 months ago. Very happy with it printing building plans every work day.

  • For photos or projects that are one off and not like hundreds of the same thing? The Canon Pro-100S is a great dye photo printer and you can flash and refill the tanks with your own ink. It's a little bigger than A3, it's A3+/13x19 inch. It's a hassle to drill holes into the tanks and refill them sure but the real ink is seriously expensive. Just know that if you want the photo to look good decades from now then you'll probably want to use genuine ink, Canon ink my be a scam but even still only they know how to engineer it to last. They claim your prints will last 300 years in archive conditions.

  • check gumtree/facebook marketplace/ebay for 2nd hand

I got a near new brother A3 inkjet printer for $0.99.

had both the A3 + A4 paper trays full as well.

refilled the cartridges myself a couple of times before the printer died. - $0.99 and 2 years of constant usage

  • FWIW, had problems with non-genuine ink in the Canon PIXMA iX6860 in the form of weird error messages. Worked fine after switching back to genuine cartridges. Sneaky bastids.
