Why not having fun with an iphone 12 for $1748 at HN?

  • The 256gb is locked: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739039

this might be locked as well, be cautious.

    • +1

Locked? That's a bit wierd for an outright phone.

      • +2

Yeah, I wouldn't take the chance, telstra can be fiddly to unlock, etc. I'd pay extra at OW or JB.

  • Has anyone has any luck in price matching with JB or OW?

    • This deal wont qualify for price matching/beat because you need to have a service/plan with telstra for this price

      • Yep, that's exactly what live chat told me. Guess instead if the 7 I've got to get the 7 pro to use up my JB gift cards. Can't justify using them if the headline price isn't the current best…

      • +2

Yep, price beat at Officeworks Blacktown today. $711.55. Took em about 10 mins to verify it and had two others team members check it - all cause you could proceed to the checkout without adding a plan on the Telstra page.

    • yep with OW pixel 7 256gb obsidian paid for $835.05 price guarantee -$43.95 got lucky

      • Why OW branch did you call? The ones I called all said they don't price match Telstra

    • I tried all over. 1 out of 2 JB stores I went to offered to price match and 1 out of 3 OW offered to price match + 5% off. Kinda depends on the salesperson/manager at the particular store.

    • A couple of bargainers managed to get a price-beat at OW and a price match at the JB Hi-Fi sales line.

    • Had no luck on the phone so went instore. Price beat at OW Pitt St in Sydney. First attempt was told I need to show the model number on the Telstra site so they know it's the same model, but Telstra don't list it (recent change to price beat rules). Went down the road to Telstra store, took pics of their display models about info and got price beat with the new proof. $711.55

  • Tried JB and Officeworks in Sydney CBD for price match/beat with no success.

NB: These are probably network locked to the Telstra network. I asked in chat and got this response:

Telstra handsets are network locked. However, you can unlock your Telstra Pre-Paid mobile, iPhone or mobile broadband device so it works on another network but if it was activated on the Telstra network for less than two years, we charge:
$80 for devices never activated or only active for six months or less
$25 for devices activated for six months to 2 years
Free for devices activated 2 years or more

    • +4

They aren't locked. Also read the specific wording - "Telstra Pre-Paid mobile".

      • How does "Telstra Pre Paid" mobile differ to what this is?

        • +1

Generally pre-paid-specific devices were subsidised by Telstra, but locked as a result. The sorts that would be bundled with a prepaid sim and $X credit.

These tended to be your cheap <$200 androids or generic dumbphones with very obvious Telstra branding.

As this is an outright, unsubsidised (and relatively premium) phone, it's not going to be locked, unless we have some evidence to the contrary. "Telstra handsets are network locked" may mean branded handsets as it's definitely an accurate statement otherwise.

          Hope that helps.

      • +2

Thanks! Seems you're right, read other comments confirming they're unlocked:

    • If this phone is locked, which I doubt (rep probably just copy pasted from a template), would it even accept eSims from other providers for dual standby?

    • +2

      Worked at Telstra for years

      These are not locked

      Not branded

      End of story

  • This may be a dumb question but are they locked to Telstra and would they have any slightly different ROM with bloatware etc?

    • -1

usually comes with telstra rom, normally shows telstra logo on bootup.

      • +1

That's a shame, surely they wouldn't bother with a custom rom these days

      • Incorrect, no Telstra rom

  • Any deals on a pixel 7 of any variant with dual sim?

    • +1

Don't they all have that, esim?

      • Yes, but… Where can I get a very cheap esim to keep my number for incoming calls, while using the physical SIM slot for Boost cards?

  • +1

Cant you just flash the latest factory base image to remove any vendor crap?

  • +1

Call the Castlehill JB. They price matched, and then I just selected to pick up the phone from townhall. The guys name that price matched was Gio if that helps.

  • Can trade in my Pixel 6 Pro for $525. Worth the upgrade for <$200?

Also anyone tried to price match this at the Google Store?

    • +2

It's not a straight upgrade though, are you sure you want to do that? You're giving up a telefocus camera, going from a 120Hz LTPO screen to a 90Hz non-LTPO screen, reducing from 12gb to 8gb of ram, slightly slower charging… plenty of stuff is upgraded, but I'd stick with the 6 pro tbh.

  • The checkout process asks you to agree to a credit check. Does anyone know if they actually do a credit check when buying outright?

    • What would a credibility check do for soneone who owes them zero dollars

      • I guess it could save on system design if they just credit check everyone, but otherwise, nothing for them and potentially a damaged credit rating for me.

        • My order was close to instant so I don't think they did

          • @aloha: probably an automated one to see you're above a particular score then auto approved

  • Ow pricey matcha?

  • Been using galaxy since changing from nexus.. What's your reason to use pixel over galaxy?

  • The Chome browser seesm to be unresponsive every so often - have to close the app and reopen. Anyone else noticed?

    • Use incognito mode. Could be an extension causing slow load.

Page loads fine for me on MS Edge (also built on chromium)

      • Hmm don't have any extensions on the phone, wasn't referring to a particular site - the whole browser seems to not refresh or do anything sometime. Have cleared it out a few times, not much of an inconvenience but shouldn't happen. May take note if it's a particular site or conditions.

Should get fixed eventually.. YouTube player doesn't work minimised either without the small player on top. Audio controls missing on the lock screen (have to swipe down )

        • +1

Oh, I thought you were having issues loading the telstra website on chrome, but issue is occurring on your Google Pixel 7?

Try another browser to see if it is getting the same issue. You can also uninstall the pre-installed chrome version and try the one from the play store.

A lot of your issues should be changeable in the phone settings, have a play around and go through each one to check.

    • I get this every so often on my Pixel 2 XL. If we're experiencing the same problem it's probably a bug with chrome itself, or an extension.

  • +1

Just did the price match in officeworks Sydney, ordered device for $835.05 and will collect tomorrow as they don’t it in stock.

    • +1

That's the go and forget about all the Telstra hoo har.
Got them to match Telstra when I got the pixel 5

      • +1

And Pixel 5 is still very good.

    • Which OW store in Sydney? Pitt St or Hunter St?

      • It was Pitt St, Already collected the Item.

        • +1

I got it price matched as well at OW Pitt St. No questions asked. Will collect on Thursday as per the ETA

          • @OZBsince2018: Nice, Enjoy!! Hope you have used some Gift cards as well.

  • Okay, with all these pixel sales, what is the actual best deal right now.

Prefer 256GB, Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro.

  • Can anyone confirm if this phone is unlocked from this purchase .. seem to have multiple answers and not too sure before I pull the trigger

    • +1

      Yes unlocked

      • Thank you

      • Is Click and Collect available?

  • +8

I just received my phone today when I ordered it on 22 November. I'm in the Metro Area.

I bought the $2 sim card and activated it with my drivers license so I can order the phone outright.

The phone is unlocked and I currently have my Amaysim sim card in it working.

The phone does not come pre-loaded with Telstra branding, from what I can see it is pure stock pixel.

  • +5

Thank you. I called the jbhifi sales line and they price matched no questions asked no Telstra Id check nothing

    • +1

Same, calling works. Even scored a deal with a phone case and screen protector.

    • Do we need to pay this online / phone or they can give us a quote which we could pay at the physical store?

Thinking of clubbing this with JB hi fi gift cards.

      • So they send a link and you pay online so it secures it .. there is gift card option on the link

        • Link also expires 11:59pm same day, you can't leave it for too long.

          • @griffy: And can you pay using multiple jb hi gift cards?

            • @TheWhizz: I only used two as I can get the variable gift cards online (up to $500 per card). There was a 5 card limit some time ago but I think that restriction has been removed.

  • +2

After calling and trying a few stores, tried again this morning at my local OW and they price beat to $711.55. Really is dependent on who you get and how much they stick by "Da Rulz"
I couldn't be bothered trying to find any gift vouchers, too good a price to pass up and mess around with!

Keep trying OzB community, you can still get lucky after a few goes!

    • Thanks for the info RevMet. Was hoping I could get a deal at OW.

    • Which OW store?

  • +1

Thanks. I walked into jb at macquarie centre for a price match, had to show I could add it to my cart on Telstra website and they gave it to me. Also lined up for 2x $25 maquarie centre gift cards for spending over 2x$200

    • How come you didn't get 3x $25 since you spent 3 x $200?

      • They had a limit, 2 per person

  • Does anyone happen to have a screenshot or receipt for the Pixel 7 128gb? It would help me out a lot for a credit card price protection claim.
