Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 White 16GB $609 + $19 Postage from Kogan

190

I was just checking Kogan for the price of the S3 and its only $629 + postage for the white 16GB model. Blue 16GB is $639 + postage. I'm waiting for the blue 16GB to drop below $650 including postage, but this is still cheaper than what I've seen from other places.

12 month warranty and I assume its being shipped from Australia. Haven't dealt with Kogan myself, but also haven't heard any horror stories.

Edit: $19 postage for me in Ballarat and I assume all over Australia
Edit2: dont know if anyone will see this but price dropped again, $609 + $19

  • It was down to $599 + $38 shipping from Shoppingsquare a few days ago
Not saying this deal is bad, just a reference

    • It still is that price. And it beats this.

      • I bought memory card from shopping square and it came quickly and seemed genuine. I don't know if I would trust them with a phone, I've never bought a phone from either though.

        • +2

I didn't know people made fake Galaxies. Or why you think if SS can sell you a fake phone, no other retailer can.

Pay by Paypal, and open a claim if in the unlikely case it does turn out to be fake.

      • Postage of $39??! dayum.

        • -2

It's only $10 more than Kogan.

SS could raise the price to "match" Kogan and only charge $10 shipping. Would you then see them in more positive light because they have cheap shipping charges? It's a matter of perspective.

        • It's not just a matter of perspective. I personally don't like the dishonesty of lowering the product price and artificially inflating the shipping price. They advertise the price $599 often without mentioning the ridiculous shipping charges so more people get sucked in. And it's not just this product, they do it across their entire storefront. Bad business ethic in my opinion.

        • +1

Well shipping charges would vary from region to region right? They can't transfer all of the shipping charges into the product because it would differ.

At least they have a shipping calculator based on post code on the product page and you don't have to go to checkout to find out. Anyone who shops there knows about the shipping already and keeps it in mind when seeing the prices.

They don't gain anything from doing it. It's not like they can trick you into purchasing it without realizing freight charges, because you will still see it when you check out. If the shipping charges are too high, someone won't buy. No one gets conned from it. Maybe your hopes are raised for a few seconds.

If you look at places like Becextech and Techrific, they charge $80+ for shipping… and their prices are always lowest by a margin. They're much worse offenders than SS. It's something you're going to have to get used to.

And it's not just this product, they do it across their entire storefront. Bad business ethic in my opinion.

That's their standard shipping charges. Now that you know what they charge for shipping, you'll never be surprised again, right?

I cant believe how much price cutting is happening with the SGIII already and no iPhone 5 insight yet.

Hopefully it'll push down prices of the older phone now.
an SGII for $300 would be nice.

  • Anyone confirm if these are Australian models?

    • +9

Only Australian once the plane lands.

      • What's that supposed to mean?

        • +1

It is drop shipped from HK and the price DOES NOT include GST

        • +3

I like how paying GST on goods has turned into a POSITIVE thing. Back in 2000 my dad whinged and whined about paying GST on everything for ages.

        • They just want to claim the TRS though. Nobody wants to pay any extra decidedly.

        • +1

For the price to include GST, the base price would need to be 9% cheaper. That's basically asking for the merchant to drop their sales margin by a further 9% which is a bit greedy.

  • With the price dropping so rapidly I think I'm just going to hold out until the prices stabilize.

  • what is the difference between the australian models and the international versions?

    • +3

Nothing really - except the international ones come standard with a UK plug but they include an AU adapter. Really the biggest difference is the price…

      • +5

I would've thought biggest difference would be the warranty?

  • +2

    Couldn't hold off :P
Purchased the white colour model for $648 (inc shipping).

[edit] It's the HK model. At checkout from PayPal, the phone is being delivered from "Kogan Hong Kong".

    • is the hong kong version any different?

      • In terms of tech specs, none as far as I'm aware of. The default language on the phone might be set to Chinese? shrugs

I was mainly after a …more reputable online retailer to buy this from since the best price in a B&M store was $747 (from DSE).

        • +1

          It's not.

The moment you boot it up the first time it will ask what language you want it set to. There might be some chinese apps installed by default in the ROM though. You can probably remove them even without rooting.

dont know why you are making a big deal over this. dse is $747 and you get 24 months local warranty as opposed to 12 months and you have to send it the the vendor. you also get a free 16gb SD card at DSE with no waiting for post and other hassles.

    • +3

Where's the OP making a big deal?

He's just sharing the info, whether people choose to buy is up to them.

If you don't like it don't buy it, but don't tell people not to post deals…

    • +6

if you're happy to pay $100/15% more, then good luck to you….or did you mistake this for ozmoreexpensive.com.au?

      • Some people prefer to pay extra so if something goes wrong they don't have to send the phone overseas and have a longer warranty. If you're happy to save money on grey imports and take your chances that's your choice.

        • +1

id rather send it oversesa than driving to a service centre and queue up whole day
dont forget you'll have to pick it up too

        • +1

You don't need to send it overseas with Kogan. I think they either arrange a courier to pick it up or you can mail it to an Australian address and they take care of the rest.

        • +1

That's fine, but I was directing my comments at the "dont know why you are making a big deal over this"

I mean if it was $5 difference, I'd agree, but this is quite a big saving.

    • I already have a Class 10 16GB Micro SD card and I don't need the extra year warranty.

  • Just checked my invoice:
Expected dispatch date: 6 Jul 2012

Reckon that means it'll arrive on the 6th of July or it'll actually get sent on the 6th of July? :S

    • it'll be posted that day.

  • +2

    Price is now $609 + delivery…………wow

    • yeah its dropping so quick. Don't know if I should repost this deal with new price…
