Round about now to end of August. Sales are held roughly 3 and 6 months before flight period. (Well at least that's what I've noticed).
Also I think Jetstar has a sale for $89 one way carry on only on till 2/7. That's as cheap as it'll ever get really. Valid for 17/10 - 5/12.QANTAS is on sale atm till 2/7 as well for $189 one way with one bag (up to 23kg) check in.
Virgin on the SYD-CNS route are usually a rip off, roughly the same price as QANTAS (sometimes even higher) for a crappier flight. (No meals and the seat-back entertainment is so small and contentless it's not much better than nothing, also I swear the seat pitch is less than QANTAS, feels very similar to Jetstar in terms of legspace and seat comfort).Thanks for your help!
The cheapest ticket currently is $149 flying Jetstar. If you fly the next day though, it drops to $89. If you hit the alert button on that page, it will email you when the price goes below a certain price.
Thanks for the link. I should have mentioned that I need to get to Cairns on the 12th. The best price for direct is $189 on that date.
I hadn't heard about the eclipse before now, but given that it's happening around dawn, you might want to be arriving before the 14th.
If you're going there specifically to see it you certainly wouldn't want to sleep in. lol
Probably because it can only be seen in a 200km strip around Cairns, so it's a pretty local thing I suppose. But then apparently people are making holidays for it.
And yeah if it's happening on the 14th then you'd want to get here on the 13th at te latest.yeah, I should have said that I'm getting there on the 12th.
The best time would be when you're in Cairns I guess, that should be really cheap.

Personally I would recommend traveling with Scarlett Johansson but that's just me.
