I must resist! I already own two pairs

    • Me too 😬

    • For something a little bit different, check out the "Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% x Gyakusou"
They are also 39% off, but cost a little more at $222.99
      https://www.nike.com/au/t/zoomx-vaporfly-next-gyakusou-runni…

      • I saw those this morning and was tempted.
I've got two pairs of vaporfly. One pair only 10km old. And I've got a new pair of endorphin speed 3 and Hoka carbon X 3 in the last month.
I dont need any more shoes as I have a cupboard full. I've got some adizero pros that haven't even been used for a couple of months.
Now if there is a good deal on the OG alphafly i might be tempted…

Reviews say they fall apart not long after

    • +4

That's standard for anything nike imo

      • Really? So Adidas would better quality overall for shoes? I always thought nike had good quality shoes for the most part

        • +1

I don’t think so. They all source their shoes from Asian sweatshops. Just pick what you like best. Amor what makes your run more enjoyable. Don’t expect any running shoes to last very long though. The soles on these are quite soft to cushion your steps. They are also the first thing to go.

I always find that the heels in Adidas trainers are too stiff. Never had that problem with Nike.

    • +9

These are racing shoes. They aren't built for durability.

      • Agree and they're great!

    • +6

These are race day shoes - I have 200km of races on mine and condition is still fine, however may have lost a tiny bit of their initial "bounce".
I can see these lasting me 500km at least, after 200km or so they can be relegated to tempo/training run shoes.

    • +4

If you are a heel striker don't expect them to last. If you arent obese and have a good mid or fore foot strike these are the best shoes you can buy for road running over 20km. I've done over 300km in my first pair and there is wear but they are well made to handle my running

      • +1

I did 5km on mine and it showed signs of shredding on the heel. If only they added the rubber protection like they have on the Tempo then it would have been perfect! Definitely not for a heel striker!

    • +8

If you're wearing them as every day shoes, you probably will ruin them in a few months. If you're a runner and have separate training shoes and buy these for actual races, they will list. These aren't made to be worn for hours every day, if you're wanting that in nike, then look at something like the pegasus range, they even come with a wet weather proof options and hiking treads now.

      • Appreciate the tip

      • -1

I disagree. If you use them as walking shoes, they may last you a decade. I have previous generations, 5+ years, as good as new. 5-10km walks most days.

        • +1

you must walk entirely on your forefoot mate, or you have the wrong shoe in mind.

    • Not falling apart as such, but the sole is very soft and wears down quickly.

  • +1

What I found funny about Nike is that there was a time their design was good, then they decided to sell the all black versions of all shoes at 3x the price while producing too much useless colour combinations. At a result, they have so much unsold inventory that made their stock at 20 years low. Have a look at this product, no single colour version, will you spend money just to wear it with your favourite set of clothes?

    • This is a running shoe and as such I would buy whatever colour was cheapest so totally digging clearance prices on them :)

  • +1

Nice looking shoe, but probably over the top for just walking 🤣

    Just gotta say no!

    • +6

You aren’t missing out. These are great for running but aren’t comfortable for walking

      • I really love the look of them though, but I definitely wouldn't be running 🤣

      • Any good show recommendations for walking? I’m so out of date with them and my pulse boost is coming towards the end of its life

        • I like Asics Nimbus for walking. This Vaporfly is great for running.

      • Pegasus great for walking and basic running training, especially when you pick them up for $88.

Otherwise the trend would be for a zero drop shoe these days I would have thought. Racing the next % meant to be good though.

    • They are a bit awkward for just walking. Great running shoes though.

      • Yeah, otherwise I would buy based on looks.

I have to say no, I got 15 pair I already have ever worn.

It's hard to say no, cos I like the look.

If they were $100, I would buy! 🤣

  • +1

    Nice Deal!

  • Have had a pair of Flynit 2 Lunar Epic's for over 4 years now and they're still going strong. I even whipper snip and mow the lawn with them. The quality of them is next level.

EDIT: Turns out that their price is now next level as well. Between $315 US and $2,500 US for a pair in mint condition. The Gen Z sneaker collectors would cry when they see me in action with them on.

  • -4

What a silly name sounds like vaporware

  • -6

They can keep them for $189 for a shoe made in Vietnam for $20 and falls apart.. no thanks

  • Do these have good support around the side of the heels? Doesn't look like from the photos, but they could be stealth.

I used to have knee pain when running anything over 5km (I started late/old), but after getting runners with good support around that area (Brooks Adrenaline 20 and Adidas Ultraboost 21) the pain was gone and I even did a half marathon @ 41yo (by far my longest run).

So, does anyone know if these have good "lateral" support?

    Thanks so much!

    • +2

Id argue the ultraboost 21 doesn’t really offer much in terms of lateral control or stability.

This shoe isn’t in the stability category.

I don’t know if you might have a correlation issue with your knee pain, but I doubt a better heel counter or lateral stability would really help.

      • @HerpinDerp I meant this part here on the shoes: https://imgur.com/a/4pXMhdc

The shoe that I was wearing before didn't have any of that lateral support on the back.

It was after a visit to the Athlete's Foot, that they did those tests that they do, that they recommended the Brooks, and it was a game changer for me.

The UB21 was just an ozb deal that I couldn't resist, and got lucky. There hasn't been another good deal on those in a while though (just some weird variations and wrong sizes) 😪

Anyway, would you say these Nikes offer more support than the UB21 then?

        • That would be part of the heel counter. Likely more of the external fixation system.

I would agree it sounds like the Brooks would be better, or an ASICS Nimbus. Other recommendations would be the Hoka Clifton.

The Nikes would be significantly less stable than the UB.

Go see a Podiatrist and see where your knee issues are steering from. As mentioned here, ITB syndrome, some form of patellofermoral mal tracking or an abnormally lateral foot axis. The athletes foot system is a marketing tool that assists in categorising foot type and sizing.

      • I agree. That pain is likely to be runners knee or ITBS and shoes won't fix it. You need to learn how to manage pain as a runner and ITBS is usually a problem with your weaker side not keeping pace with the dominant side especially on longer runs.

If you plan to run another half or are contemplating a full just buy these now. This is as good as it gets and bargains like this may not be there when you want them

        • Well, all I can say is:

          • shoe without support = pain (5km)
          • shoe with support = no pain (21km)

          🤷‍♂️

          • -1

@l o l: These have support. They are stiff where you want them and stupidly soft and insanely light too
These are the shoes you want

            • @choofa: Thanks for the help, I'll give them a try :)

              • +1

@l o l: At this price it is absolutely worth the money

    • This shoe is notorious for instability. I wouldn't look at buying it unless you wanted to PB for a race.

      • Oops, too late. 😅

Nike has a good return policy though. I'll have a very close look before deciding to keep or not.

I tried quite a few youtube videos, and none of them had the info I was looking for.

        Thanks for the help.

        • +1

All good! I have a pair and they are unreal for running fast, like nothing else feels like them (not that I've tried any other supershoe), but I wouldn't want to train in them. I used them for this year's Melbourne Marathon and I could feel the strain on my ankle towards the end.

  • -1

Them be some damn ugly shoes!

    • -1

I agree the purple black combo is horrific
The black white gold isn't bad but they aren't things of beauty to look at
But they are magnificent to run in

  • +6

Race day shoes, as others have said, they aren't durable, they won't tear, but they will lose their springiness.

Several are asking about stability and lateral support. If you're looking for joggers/dailies recommend either

Asics Kayano series - best stability and best support for overpronators (most people are), but also heavier
New Balance Vongo 5 - compared to the kayano, it is lighter, and less stable. It is similary designed for overpronation, however, not as much as the Kayano.
Nike Pegasus series - lightest of the three, offers the least stability, designed for neutral runners

I have all three, I personally enjoy the Vongo 5 the most

    • I disagree. I thought mine had lost pop after 300km but after running in a brand new pair it felt exactly the same

The reality is that you get used to it and it's no longer as amazing as it once was

      • +2

It's not up for debate though, it's just fact. These shoes use the ZoomX foam which is Nike's lightest and least durable foam. Mileage will vary ofcoarse, and yes, they may last, dependent on factors such as weight, running surface etc, but personal anecdotes aside, ZoomX is a very light, springy foam designed for racing and durability suffers, both in terms of retaining their springiness and wear rate. The pegasus I listed uses the react foam which is denser and more well-rounded (ie, suitable as a daily).

        • You are comparing some ordinary shoes to the ultimate carbon plated super shoes that have changed marathon running forever

I agree that there is no debate

          • @choofa: Not biased at all…

I never said the Vaporflys weren't amazing at marathon racing, I said what they are not, and that is, not suitable for daily use. Using these shoes as a daily is like using a F1 race car as a city driver.

  • +1

    Got it !!

  • So tempted to hit the buy button until I read the reviews.
There were a fair few "Verified Purchase" reviewers claiming major durability issues with these shoes only after a few months of medium use.

    • Sure you can read the Nike reviews and make a call. I suggest you look at reviews online from proper running sites. They are all absolutely positive

These are the best long distance road.running shoes you can buy. At this price it's ridiculously good value

    • +1

This is an elite performance shoe and very worth the coin

  • Good on Nike, making a shoe so good it's considered a cheat - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVXrIaPuP7c

Sounds like it's for competitive use and durability for daily use isn't something that was optimized for so I'll pass.

    • How many marathons you run?

  • Thanks OP.

  • Ugh, I don't need these till April 23 but I don't think I can tolerate buying now and storing them for 6 months.

Seems like I'm paying $300 next year …

  • Anyone know if this is an online only deal or if Nike honour website pricing in store?

    • In store is completely separate

    • Nike outlets may have similar or even lower price (different colours though).

    • $108 for vaporfly in Nike Outlets for members.
