  • buy a generic targus whatever shit from anywhere

then buy a genuine from ebay etc.

    • The problem is all those generics are about $30-$40 for the cheapest version. I could pay like $10 extra and get an original one from ebay.

  • According to the spec sheet you would require a replacement 90w laptop adapter. Easy enough to find.

    Here is one for $24.

    • thats a copy

      • This then.

Ref part number HPB90-P03 via Amazon

But you'll have to arrange parcel forwarding, but it is still fairly cheap considering the low price of the charger.

        • I've never bought from amazon before or used parcel forwarding. How much do you think it would cost in total?

Also how much of a hassle is it to buy from amazon using a parcel forwarder.

        • How much do you think it would cost in total?

9.5" x 9" x 2.5" box (2 pound weight) its a fairly small package, so the shipping should be fairly cheap.

Minimal cost is around $17~18 dollars. I would use Airmail Priority + 0.3 Insurance

        • Thanks for the info. This alternate one that your link directs to now seems to have international shipping based on amazon's international shipping pricing.

          Am I reading that correctly?

  • What are people's thoughts in generic MACBOOK pro chargers from eBay ?

    • i'm not a huge fan of copy chargers except in the case of multivoltage generics

here's the problem: most modern laptops use smart chargers these days… they know what kind of charger it is (65w, 90w) and they can tell the charger is a copy… you can look on the internet up how smart modern laptops are when they detect a copy charger

so for Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple its not a good idea to buy generic chargers

simpler laptops like Acer, Toshiba, Asus etc use dumb chargers and you can use copies

as long as you supply the right volts and amps they are happy, this is NOT the case with those four brands i mentioned

      • What about a slightly older laptop like mine? Would that also be able to detect a copy charger? Also what exactly what would happen if the laptop was able to tell that the charger is a copy?

        • Also what exactly what would happen if the laptop was able to tell that the charger is a copy?

The laptop will refuse to charge the battery — your battery is never topped up.

But you can still use the laptop off AC power.

        • you pretty much can't use fake chargers on any HP built after 2005

you need a genuine - get a real one off ebay

you may bring your laptop to DSE and basically act like a noob… ask the guy if they have a matching multi voltage charger

make sure if charges and works before you leave and keep your receipt

        • unfortunately i looked at the dse website and the cheapest they seem to stock is $80. I think out of desperation I will buy a generic one from MSY and also order a genuine one from amazon.

  • Be aware the cheap "OEM" ones on ebay might just be fakes.
