32 Inch Monitor in Portrait Mode?

Has anyone used this set up before? I'm looking at a productivity workflow. I currently have 1x 24-inch monitor (that's 12yrs old and about to die), a budget 24-inch curved monitor and my laptop connected to a hub. I'm finding the laptop increasingly difficult to work with if I have the other monitors on as it's so much easier with the latter.

So I'm thinking a 32" in portrait mode to replace my laptop, which will also replace the old monitor when it eventually dies. I'm not a gamer, but I remotely dial into other systems and I need something that will do the job well.

Thanks.

  • You probably want 1440p for a 32 inch monitor used for productivity.

Personally I would put the dying 24 in portrait and use the 32 as your main.

I run a 38 ultrawide plus a 24 in portrait for Teams and notepad++ and it works well for me.

  • Wouldnt it be better for a 4k monitor for the realestate of more icons on the screen

  • Better to get 2 x24" monitors as then one of them is in portrait for documents and the other for other apps. One of the guys at work had this setup and it was very good if you were working on word docs. It worked allot better than a single 27" monitor that we were able to get.

A single monitor is not as good as two as you can have them setup for different apps and the apps do not overlap on the same screen space.

  • Thanks all for taking the time to respond, I appreciate the help.. Unfortunately my old monitor does not rotate witht its current stand. I've custom made a monitor riser à la Grovemade (https://grovemade.com/product/wood-desk-shelf/?initial=342), so a monitor arm is a no go. Hopefully Black Friday will come up with some good options for a 27in. I'll probably use the 27in portrait on the table instead of on the riser, and shift it to my main screen once the old one dies.
