I like a lot of people was excited when this was announced. Finally an Entry level iPad with USB-C. The one thing that put me off was the price, which is more expensive than the 9th Gen, but has a nice processor, screen. I thought Apple had finally released a decent Entry level iPad.
Then I read that the unit only supports Apple Pencil 1, which requires a 'lightning' cable. Why?????
A few weeks back, I read that the USB-C port is throttled! It runs at 480Mbps!
IE USB 2.
The same speed as the Ancient Micro USB/Lightning standard.
Why?????
Here is the article and being Apple Insider I assume is reliable?
BTW I AM typing this on a Macbook M1 Pro (Using a Logitech MX Keyboard), which is a fantastic product (But I wish it had a touchscreen)
from what I understand:
- USB C because it will be the standard in the future
- Apple Pencil 1 because they also have the iPad Air 5 and iPad Pro 11.
If they gave it too many 'premium' features as seen in the air and pro, it would have too much of a cross-over between the 3 tiers offered.
The base iPad is for the average user and the $749 price is absurd basically because of the AUD compared to the USD.
