Air bnb is constantly more expensive if compared to the same property when advertised on booking.com . Easily 10-15% higher. Check it if you don’t believe me

Airbnb prices have become so high its cheaper to book 4 star hotels now. Too many rules, strict cancellelation, host might cancel last minute, often no 24/7 front desk, no daily cleaning and etc

Might as well just book on Hotels.com and get a 10% back in free nights.

I agree, Airbnb prices are so high it's only worth it to book one property for a big group personally. As it's a gift card deal, it's worth it if someone was already thinking of booking on Airbnb.

I find its cheaper to just book a nice hotel, which is serviced, has a reputable brand attached to it, and you know you're going to get a decent place to stay. Airbnb is full of overpriced dumps that somehow have high ratings.

      Had great experiences in Japan.

But had hosts here cancel last minute, leaving no or very expensive options available at short notice.

Worst was being asked to leave part way through my stay. I refused. They wanted me to cancel - forfeiting the rest of the paid week. After a lot of arguing, they cancelled & had to leave.
Airbnb listened in on the dispute, agreed the host was wrong but it's up to them, was supportive & received $50 voucher - but a bad experience

      Really spoilt my holiday.

Really depends where you want to go. AirBNB can still be good away from cities (and overseas), but yeah prices in Australia are getting out of control. There are still some gems here n there especially when you want to be staying rural or quiet beach suburbs. For example we have booked a highly reviewed little renovated pet friendly house a stones throw from the beach (100m or so) on north/mid NSW coast for $280 a night.

Very true. Plus Airbnb removes houses from the market and leads to higher rentals due to shortages.

    • The only reason I have to use Airbnb is because of the family. 2 kids that need 2 beds. So we need 3 beds altogether. Do you all book 2 adjoining rooms for hotels ?

Do you all book 2 adjoining rooms for hotels ?

I went down that path, had some terrible experiences with Airbnb and their 'Trust and Safety team' felt like a bunch of children that didn't really care at all.
Now I'm back to Hotels, as there are usually options for multi-bed rooms or multiple rooms if required, and the customer service if/when there are issues is way better. Hotels tend to have a better understanding of looking after their customers, whereas Airbnb are just rent seekers looking to skim bucks off landlords and holiday makers.
Airbnb worked in the early days when it was cheap and cheerful, but now it more expensive than a hotel with much more risk and much worse service. Why would you do that to yourself?

    • airbnb good for the 'experiences' though

Deliveroo were so bad for so long though, at least for us in our area of Sydney. Was blindingly obvious they were failing.

      • Ordered 3 times, always waited over an hour for a delivery - good riddance!

Airbnb is a poison on society. Why would you support that behaviour?
