Portable Power Stations - Hiring? Alternatives?

Hi all.

I'm planning on doing a longer camping trip these summer holidays and would love to have a portable power station, similar to the Bluetti types. 2000Wh-ish like the Bluetti AC200P would be ideal but I could live with something a bit short of that. But the idea of buying a unit (+ solar panels) for infrequent use doesn't make me super happy and I'd much rather hire something if possible.

Does anyone know of any hire places with these type of devices?

Or alternatives that are decent enough quality but cheaper? Would also consider a small genny if it's quiet enough.

  • The only cheaper option that doesn't count on a lucky score on gumtree is to rig up extra batteries, solar panels, a small inverter & wire them into your car. There is a mountain of guides out there on how to do it & wiring up a temp install for one trip isn't that difficult, its just not aesthetically pleasing.

The DIY options are not as integrated as the power stations, hence wiring/attaching to your car. Otherwise its a complicated mess of parts flopping around that will be too annoying to use. It also lets you charge off the alternator if required & you can mount a couple of second hand standard solar panels to roof racks.

  • How infrequent? What about renting a little generator when needed.

    • I'd consider renting a little genny but can't find them at reasonable prices. Kennards $400 / week for a 2kW, lol. Half of that for 4 weeks would be realistic IMO.
