Holy…. Over $2k for a vacuum cleaner. Does it do cooking too ?

    • Haha yeah it’s a fair bit to pay for a vac but we got a big house with a German shepherd so I think it’ll be worth it! Researching online and it appears to be one of the top robot vac currently.

      • -1

Same. But white Swiss Shepherd. Paying $150 a fortnight for cleaner. Will pay off itself after 6 months.

        • +21

I think your cleaner probably does a better job than a robot vacuum..

          • -1

@Cloudie: Would disagree with this tbh, these are incredibly effective at targeting spots humans would typically ignore. The only places that still require manually wiping would be blinds, windowsills, door frames etc and beds/sofas that the roomba can’t get under (Which a human probably wouldn’t clean aside from Spring cleanings.)
My main criticism of this product is that there’s many cheaper alternatives which will suffice for people with smaller homes, living without pets or if their house isn’t an entire obstacle course.
I live in a large home with a golden retriever and this thing manages to fill it’s dustbin twice a week.

            • +8

              @Yve:

these are incredibly effective at targeting spots humans would typically ignore

Maybe. But does it clean my shower screen? Does it clean the toilet?

Come on man, be reasonable! You don't pay for a cleaner to only vacuum and mop for a good few hours! So no, you can't get back your money's worth within 6 months as cyannon suggests

              • @Mr Frodo: Most of a cleaners time is likely spent vacuuming and mopping rather than in the toilet. I would be rather concerned if they were spending most of their time in there.

                • @Yve: you obviously haven't seen most people's toilets!

          • +1

@Cloudie: You also have to factor in emotional support, robots not required.

          • @Cloudie: I dunno. Ive had some bad cleaners

        • -1

I'll come vacuum your place for $2159 my friend. I'll even whistle you a tune, I won't use your energy and won't asked to be emptied.

P.S. you'll still be paying the cleaner $150 a fortnight after buying this.

        • -1

Are you paying $150 for just the floors to be cleaned?

          • @itshammer: Seems like it. Vacuum and mopping. They don't touch under the bed which the robot will.

      • Can you report back once you've tried it? I've been saving for it but I can't bring myself to actually buy it lol

        • +4

I've got one. It's pretty great. The fact it can both mop and vacuum entirely automatic really is fantastic. It can even raise the mop so it can vacuum on carpet. I basically just select areas on a map and it does its thing, cleans its mop, empties itself, and resets for next use.

Main issues are every so often it just gets totally confused if you pick it up (eg to detangle the brush) and if it ever gets confused about the location of the dock it's very annoying. Also it thinks mirrored wardrobes and sliding doors are portals to another world and wants to go through them so you need to manually set up virtual barriers which is a bit annoying. Setting up rooms on the app is annoying as well.

          • +3

@Ezuku: So begs the question. Is it worth the $2k investment?

            • +3

@nightelves: For me, yes. But it depends on how often you vacuum, how much time you'll save, and how much you value your time.

With kids i basically run it every day to clean the meals area and is mops my entryway. If i didn't have it my house would easily fall into mess as I'm exceedingly time poor. There's also the massive benefit of forcing kids to clean up otherwise it'll vacuum up their toys and dispose of them into the bin.

The bigger question though is whether it's worth the $1.5k above a regular high end vacuum for what is essentially mopping alone.

As an aside, i really enjoy the use of the camera and driving it around. I just wish when I was phoning in to it I could move it as well.

          • @Ezuku: Yeah but you only set it up once…after that it's pretty smooth sailing

            • @jonnoyeo: Mostly. It did update, got confused with where the dock was and no amount of recalling the map or manipulation could fix it. I did need to remap it.

Haven't been able to get the rooms properly divided which is fairly annoying, although i haven't really bothered after doing it once. Personally i just zone clean.

The amazon alexa usage is quite unreliable too.

          • @Ezuku: Thank you! We would be picking it up a lot as we have one step. So that’s really helpful.

Did you ever look into the Dreame W10. It’s part of the reason why I haven’t taken the plunge. Couldn’t decide

            • @Cloudie: Actually it can hold multiple maps, so actually taking it to a completely different another area may not be as big a deal. My issue though is that picking in my single story house sometimes makes it think it's in another completely different part of the house.

Not actually that big a deal, as mentioned I've only actually needed to remap it once. Most of the time when it gets confused i just put it back on or near the dock, tell it to dock and it's figured out where it is again.

I did look at the dreame option (i think it was the w10) and decided to pass on it. Mainly because iirc the dreame can't raise the mop so when it's on it won't go on carpet. On the other hand the s10 maxv can, which really makes it set and forget.

Incidentally, 1 other caveat if you haven't realised - the s7 maxv (and all other robots) can't actually vacuum up liquids, they're essentially just dragging a cloth all over the place while moving it around a bit. The s7 maxv can have a cleaner mop with the dock than alternatives.

          • @Ezuku: Does it get tangled due to long hair ?

            • @[Deactivated]: Nope. Lots of like hair at home, no issue. Does get stuck if it goes over a tissue though.

    • +1

Apparently does the laundry as well.

    • -1

A lot of money to save you 4 seconds of time emptying the dirt canister and filling up the water tank.

      • +1

You obviously do not own one. I have the vac but not the dock. I spend a lot of time, water and detergent to wash the cloth mop each time it does one area/room. I make it a point not to use the same dirty cloth to mop the whole house. With the dock, it will do the washing for you. So yeah, it does save a lot of time.

        • -2

Or if you use one with the disposable mop pads and buy the cheapo ones in packs of eleventy million from ebay, you don't have this problem either.

          • @whichwhatwho: The clean is not the same. The disposable ones just drag a dirty rag over your floor unless you babysit and switch it out.
The S7 dock automates all that. For some, it's worth the 2k price tag

          • @whichwhatwho: I don’t see how you can buy cheapo ones with the kind of cloth it needs to clean. The amount of cheapos you mention if ever that exist will probably amount to the dock one day.

    • No, but will pickup the crumbs :|

    • I thought people complaining why Dyson stick can go over $1K and compare them to Xiaomi (mostly half the price at least) when there are some others at an entirely next level!!

  • +1

Tried to apply it to the dock only and it doesn't work, so yea it doesn't work for the whole site.

This is a really good price for the combo though.

  • +1

I think their tactic is to bring it down from 2.5k to 1.5k and make it look like absolute bargain for someone like me…

    • +3

would get if it drops below $2k

  • +4

I know robot cleaners are good and helpful but I think they are very over priced recently…☹️

    • +5

Agreed. I paid ~$550 for my Roborock S5 (non-Mac etc) back in the day & that was a decent price, but it’s still going strong today.

$2k for a robo vac, albeit WAAAYYYY nicer & newer than my S5, is wild…
      I can’t imagine paying that for a vacuum/mop.

      • +2

Same here, still going strong with my s5 💪

      • +1

Same I bought a Roborock S5 a couple of years ago, except I bought the china version so I need to connect to the mainland china server - which has been my biggest gripe since I don't get Google Assistant integration and the app sucks. Waiting for it to fall apart so I can justify buying an aussie version. But for the time being i need to walk over to it, bend down, and press a button - I suppose its better than lugging a vaccum around :D

        • +1

You should look up Valetudo on GitHub. It's an open source firmware modification and it's meant to be compatible with the S5.

With the Valetudo modifications, the vac doesn't need to contact any external servers, and you use a different app to communicate with the vac. I'm going to use it myself some time, just haven't got around to it yet.

      • +3

Used to pay $100 for a mobile phone…

    • +1

it’s not overpriced, this model is less than AUD 1000 in China… They just sell it with a high price here…

      • Yes, I know that, everything very expensive in Australia. It's around AUD $1,600 before discount in South Korea. But I'm living in Australia now…
        And I think $1,600 also expensive. 🤑🤑🤑

  • -1

Neato D10 every day of the week

  • +1

Thanks heaps, best price for combo that I've seen. Also happy there is the Omo cleaning solution which improves mopping performance.

    • What's this omo cleaning solution? Something you buy at Woolies and mix in the water? Would you put that in the water tank of the S5 too?

  • -2

Dayum,,roborock is sure milking the good will.. I am sure the mopping is sub par as usual ..the auto fill function..naah … never thought it would be nice if the emptying station could fill the water too.. yet to hear of a robot vaccum do a good job with mopping .. way cheaper options without the auto fill function on the market now ..my S51 still goes good and has only needed a battery and a fan assembly but that price is ridiculous

    • +5

Isn't Roborock one of the few brands with a great reputation for the mopping functionality?

      • -2

yeah thats a comparative statement a robot vaccum cannot dispense downward pressure nor scan for stains..well the latter is possible technically the former too I suppose but has not been done yet.. they are light weight which is what makes them cheap since the propulsion system can work off a small battery. So a robot vaccum that can do something half way decent with mopping will sound louder and cost more than acceptable ..so not practical and hence not been created

        • +2

Uhh, this cleaner has camera based object detection that's used in the mopping process.
It uses it to detect things on the floor and know where to focus cleaning and to avoid pet waste.

The Roborock uses very rapid vibrations, it's pretty quiet but definitely scrubs.

          • -5

@NobalaKoba: Aww.. try it out then mate .. give it a go.. your money ..your choice,,try it out..If the advert says it mops and scrubs..what can go wrong ..fully automated ,,all thats needed is a water level sensor connected to a hose and Simpsons ..here we come :-D

            • @shaidas: Own a S7, it mops well.
As good as doing it myself? Probably a 7.5/10 in comparison.

Not having to do it myself? No brainer

  • +7

    2.1k.. wtf

  • Wouldnt it be cheaper to buy the S7 MaxV + Roborock Auto-Empty Dock Station separately? Comes up to AUD $1,898.20

    • You might have the wrong robot select. The S7 maxV + the ultra empty station come down to 2298 after coupon

  • -2

    waste
    of
    money

  • +1

Thanks Op, just bought a S7. Lol

  • +4

I have a feeling all these robo vacs will be landfill in 3-5 years.

Their build quality appears questionable and what’s the battery life like? Can they be replaced?

Anyone looked at what you’ll be up for to keep this alive beyond 5 years?

    • +4

My S5 is 3 years old & I’ve only ever replaced the brushes and the filter a few times. Would be <$50 total in parts (AliExpress FTW) and i still have spares. I don’t mop with it much though.

As to build quality - my 3 yo carry’s it up and down the hallway whenever it gets stuck somewhere & isn’t particularly gentle about putting it down.. zero problems thus far. He rode it a few times when he was v-small too… lol

Battery is still great. It won’t clean our new ~240m2 house on one charge if you use the Turbo/Max suction mode, but will do it fine on Balanced mode.

I recommend them to anyone who asks me. It’s miles better than the LGs and Roomba’s I’ve owned in the past

    • My V1 is 6yrs old. ~ $50 on the consumable brushes and filters. Still seems to get decent runtime.

    • First roborock lasted 5 years before handed it down and still running strong. Had a motor replaced for $30 and that's been it.

  • +5

WTF…2k mobiles, 2k graphics cards and now 2k vacuums. What planet is this?

    • +2

      Planet Earth.

    • +2

      Planet inflation

    • All those are probably better than 5k bags

    • Planet Consumerism

  • +3

Been waiting for this deal, this is the best robot vacuum on the market.

    • still not my target price, HODLing until it drops below $2k

  • Can this deal with lots and lots of looooong hair all over the floor?

    • Yes. I purchased a Q7Max on Amazon Prime Day. Rubber brush is easy to clean especially for hair.

    • Does it do thick curly hairs as well?

    • +2

Yes but expect to do some untangling as well. Hair will curl around the edges of the roller and the spin brush

      • I don't mind manual untangling as long as it doesn't get tangled in hard to clean places of the vacuum.

  • Same model is under $1000 in China, time to make some Mandrain speaking friend and get some shipped over.

    • +3

      $1000 makes much more sense.

      • I can buy iMac under $2000 and it will run without maintenance for a long time. 1k is right money for a vacuum.

    • I’m pretty sure the Chinese ones don’t work over here!

      • +1

I've seen plenty of Chinese work here

    • CN version's app does not work in Au.

    • The China version of this machine for regional shielding, which can not run properly in Australia. However, you can choose the other two brands of the top version, they are Dreame S10 and Ecovacs X1 OMNI, the price is about 800. With forwarding fees, the total price is less than $1000, which means no additional GST is required.

    • does anyone know if singapore version is region locked?

  • +1

I bought the Roidmi Eva, similar, but has larger tanks and wash capacity - Super Happy with it!
The price was $1200, so not cheap, but good AI and most most importantly, it CLEANS the MOPS too, so you pretty much set and forget.

    • does it raise the mops when vacuuming?

      • +1

        No

        • You sure? I am pretty sure it does raise the mop! We let it run on rugs and hard floors and never had our rugs mopped!

          • @vongole83: I don't personally own one, but I did quite some research. Review said Roidmi Eva only cleans the edges of the carpet when mops are mounted. It does not raise the mop like Roborock s7.
How long have you had Roidmi Eva ? Are you happy with it ? I'm trying to decide Roborock ($2100+) or Roidmi Eva ($1300+).

            • +1

@MaOptAus: Sorry I misread- I thought the no was about the S7!

    • Can you share how did you get it for $1200? Cheapest I have seen was $1349.10 on ebay with coupon code.

      • Couple of things.
One is shipping, which you can select to be Longer (or ask on their WhatApp to add that option). The other - exchange was better than now.
Otherwise it commonly goes down to $799 USD from $1299 USD.

They DO have a support centre in Perth, so you don't need to ship far for warranty, and the presales support was amazing.

        • Thanks. I didn't know they providing shipping to Australia.
I need to decide choosing between Roidmi Eva or Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. Hopefully there is good sales on black friday.

  • We have the vacuum only and it’s pretty great. Hardly ever need to mop or vacuum now. Huge timesaver with kids and a dog. Well worth buying even without the dock. Just buy a load of mop pads and empty the dust chamber and fill the water tank after every big clean and job done!

  • +3

2 grand for a vacuum get phucked

    • Suck it!

      • X chops

  • +1

Awsome been waiting for a deal thanks!

  • Trying to decide if this will be cheaper on Black Friday/Cyber Monday or not…

    • Unfortunately doesn’t look like it! They’ve only kept the free shipping “deal”.

  • +2

What's the warranty support like with these guys?

  • Been waiting for the S7. This code brings it down to $800 delivered. I think I'll wait for Black Friday..
