It's worth mentioning that this CPU currently comes with a free copy of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection if you buy it from an approved retailer.

    https://www.amd.com/en/gaming/ryzen-uncharted-bundle

Unfortunately PCByte doesn't seem to be on the list yet as far as I can see.

    • +6

It looks like they are participating in the deal. I had to contact them after purchase of my CPU to request the code. They looked up my order details, and a few hours later, I had the code and instructions emailed to me.

      • +1

Yeah I just emailed them an hour ago and just received a redemption code via email now.

  • +7

nice price, but maybe wait till black friday

    • +7

Are there actually good deals on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. My main takeaway from last year was that there were mainly only cashback offers.

      • +5

General trend is that computer components are dropping like flies so even if black friday sales aren't that good then the price will most likely be lower than what you'll be paying now compared to 1-2 months time

      • +6

        Yes
Would wait till Black Friday, last year was kind of special since it was during pandemic pricing and many retailers opted out of participating in the eBay deals (Aside from KS Computer Technology, KS Computer Technology Mule Acc 1, Mule acc 2, Mule acc 3, Mule acc 4 and Mule acc 5, yes they have 5 eBay accounts to flood identical listings and there may be more I’m unaware of)
It’s usually a matter of knowing where to look

        • +6

This CPU in particular is already nearing EOL and stock worldwide is quite depleted already from the recent price drops.

They instantly sell at these prices already so there's absolutely no incentive to reduce them any further.

We will likely get deals on the 5500/5600 or even the 5900/5950x cpu's but this one I don't see getting any kind of massive discount further to this.

          • @Lighter Fluid: How do we know that stocks are low globally?

            • +3

@Punkboy: Look at the suppliers with low/no stock and increasing prices (e.g. as in my post below).

You are also highly unlikely to find used options for the CPU.

            • @Punkboy: Check on every major retailer from Amazon to newegg, to bestbuy to local stores like mwave, scorptec and more.

  • +4

It's already sold out. And sold out most places. The chances of a Black Friday deal get pretty slim when stock is low.

You'll probably have better luck with a non-X3D chip, but that may not be what you are looking for.

    • For context,
      AMD USA OOS
      Best Buy OOS
Amazon (prices going up, or offering from China sales, due to low stock/high demand)
      Scorptec OOS

      • This is true, it’s out of stock in a lot of places.
I would recommend considering alternatives as I don’t believe 5800X3D is very competitively priced. It’s main advantage is that it’s on AM4 and utilises DDR4 which makes it much more affordable.
The 13600K is also a competitive option if you’re not playing certain AAA titles on 1440P where we really see the extra cache on 5800XCD being useful since the performance on the 13600K on average is better (Production workloads, general workloads, lower fidelity gaming such as Valorant, CSGO etc)

        • +2

5800X3D has more buyer base since a large majority of AM4 boards support it, while the 13600k is limited to new builds or people with 12th gen system.

    • +1

It is pre-order as noted in the title and the description has the ETA. You can add it to your cart with the pre-order button.

      • Sorry, I meant in-stock has sold out (as per a lot of places). So it'll be drip fed and pre-orders where/when stores do get replenished.

  • +1

This or 5900x for Warzone? Ive read that Warzone is CPU intensive and makes use of the 5900x's extra cores.

    • +5

This for Warzone, You are right about the extra cores so a 5900x over a 5600x.
However above all else the Cache this gives improves performance in Battle royal games.

I made the jump from 5600x to 5800x3d and did extensive research around Warzone. If your ram is on the cheaper side it will also help as with the extra Cache it is nowhere near as picky as other Ryzen cpu's which often want expensive ram.

      • Hey appreciate the reply. I'm not so sure though, the 5900x still looks the better buy for the same price personally. Also I have good ram already 4400mhz b-die

        • +5

All the gaming fps benchmarks show 5800x3d to be the current best 5000 CPU for gaming, on par with the 7000 series. The 5900x would only be better if you do creative work.

          • -1

@Grail Hunter: What about streaming? Would multi core help with that at all?
and the gaming benchmarks ive seen only beat out the 5900x but a frame or two.. not really worth the trade off of losing 4 cores and not being able to OC etc is it?

        • +3

          I went from 5900X to 5800X3d @ 1440p 165Hz with a RTX 3080.

Can't speak to Warzone or MW2 specifically, but the 5800X3D is hands down better for gaming. In a lot of games max FPS is much better and at worst it's identical to the 5900X, but in all titles I've played the 1% and 0.1% lows are better than the 5900X which is what matters most.

That said, I only bought the 5800X3D because it was a slot in upgrade on my AM4 board and I didn't have to buy new RAM. Not sure of your situation, but if I was buying new I'd definitely consider Intel 13th gen or Ryzen 7000 series.

If you're doing anything other than gaming then the 5900X might serve you better.

          • @combatant: Hey man. You went from 5900x to 5800x3d?? Wow! What game do you play? Im assuming you play competitively?
I appreciate the insight. Though not sure if Warzone is different because it makes use of the extra cores or something. Would be good to know for sure somehow lol

            • +3

@essent1al: Ha, I try to be competitive but I'm not that good so it's just for fun. Play a whole bunch of different games from all different genres from FPS to sim to adventure etc, but am mainly grinding away in War Thunder at the moment.

From every benchmark I've seen which puts the regular 5800X pretty much on par to 5900X performance in gaming, I highly doubt you'd see higher performance in Warzone with a 5900X. There's a comparison between 5800X and 5800X3D for Warzone here: https://www.techspot.com/review/2451-ryzen-5800x3D-vs-ryzen-…

Probably more important question is what CPU, GPU, Mobo do you have currently?

  • Genuinely curious why people are interested in this CPU.
Compared to the 5600 it has identical single core performance and 33% more multi core performance, yet it costs 200% more?!
    What am I missing?

    • +10

      Gaming performance

      • +2

Viper8 has a point with its bad perf/$ value, even for gaming.

Gaming FPS is ~30-50% over the 5600 (recently on sale for $165), and that's only if you have absolute monster GPUs like the 6900XT/3090 or higher. If value scaled linearly, the 5800x3D's fair price should be ~$250-$300.

        • What's your opinion for the best bang for buck AM4 CPU assuming this runout pricing continues?

          • +3

            @Punkboy: 5600

          • @Punkboy: definitely 5600 ~$165, but personally I would get the 5800X3D if it drops to ~$400. That's more reasonable for extra premium paid for moving up the product stack, historically speaking.

        • +2

Top tier products rarely scale in a linear fashion, just look at what people paid for 3090 over 3080.

I just bought one to go with my 6900xt, dreaming that I won't need to upgrade again for a long time.

Of course, another bug will bite, for now some 1% lows are the worst part of my system and everything else is good, just not great.

          • +2

@beeze: "just look at what people paid for 3090 over 3080"

            $150… But I HODL'ed for a looooong time.

I just bought this to keep said 3090 from being held back, particularly 1% lows and particularly in VR. Essentially trying to get the best of last gen (save the 3090 Ti) and keep it for 3-4 years. It was that or wait for 7600X3D to release or pay 3x the price for a 4090.

        • +1

Gaming FPS is ~30-50% over the 5600 (recently on sale for $165), and that's only if you have absolute monster GPUs like the 6900XT/3090 or higher. If value scaled linearly, the 5800x3D's fair price should be ~$250-$300.

This comment is just so far off the mark. Think about it this way. If you were to buy whole computer right now with a 5600 for $1200 vs buying a whole computer with identical components EXCEPT it has a 5800x3d and costs $1500, do you still think it makes sense that the 5800x3d computer should only be $100 more than the 5600 computer??

Paying $200 instead of $100 for RAM should make a $2000 computer twice as fast? C'mon people, think.

          • +1

@picket23: since when were we comparing entire systems? why are you so angry?

            • +2

@xrailgun: Didn't mean to upset anyone, I enjoy arguing a point, sorry if you don't.

    • +4

      Gaming performance

    • +2

Where are you getting that this has identical single core performance? The benefit that the x3d chip has is the larger L3 cache. There are videos out there with comparisons and explanations.

    • +3

      Gaming Performance (primarily @ FHD)

    • +3

      3d cache
      https://www.anandtech.com/show/17337/the-amd-ryzen-7-5800x3d…

For the price of not only the CPU but the AM4 Motherboards and DDR4 (all of which are end of life with no future upgrades as AM5 and DDR5 replace both so plenty of sales on them) it's easily the best bang for buck for one of the best CPU's for gaming.

    • +1

The running theory is that in due time it will help performance in applications and games, so in turn giving the chip some longevity.

    • +2

Gaming performance in certain games bottlenecked by cache.
Whether it’s worth it or not depends on you as an individual, the bottleneck typically occurs at lower resolution and higher frame rates E.g. GTA V ~130fps 1440P and swapping to the 5800XCD may raise it to 170fps for example.
Many people are willing to pay for that kind of performance in certain competitive games or unoptimised games that require massive cache.

    • +4

It has a massive amount of cache and outperforms basically everything else AMD have on offer when it comes to gaming frame rates. Particularly sim-type games like MS Flight Sim. If you're measuring single core performance using synthetic benchmarks rather than actual games, that could be why you have the impression they're identical.

It does vary game by game, but it's within spitting distance of intel's 13900k - https://www.techpowerup.com/review/rtx-4090-53-games-core-i9…

It's basically the best gaming processor you will ever be able to put in an AM4 board.

    • Games that require lots of rendering "Battle royals" these chips are second to none.
They trade punches with 13600 and 13900s

    • +2

So I was looking at application benchmark data, where the 3D performs the same as a 5800X, which is basically a 5600 with 2 more cores.

However as pointed out above it turns out the massive increase in cache provides a big boost in gaming benchmarks by 25% over the 5800X, assuming no GPU bottlenecks. Fair enough then.

Interesting concept having an 8-core gaming CPU (5800X3D) and 12-core productivity CPU (5900X) at very similar pricing. I personally do like the flexibility of having both.

      • I personally do like the flexibility of having both.

Many people share that thought and were disappointed by the lack of higher core count 3D V-Cache AM4 processors.

Now they are hoping that the Zen 4 3D AM5 products that should be announced at CES will have 12 or 16 core variants…will see.

    • I don’t know the technical stuff, but all reviews or benchmarks show 5800x3D will beat 5600 by small margin when fps above 60+, or noticeable margin when fps 100+ (1080, 1440 or 4K doesn’t matter). If you have 60hz monitor or playing around 60fps, 5600 is perfectly fine. If you’re playing at 144fps, 5800x3D is good option, especially if you have compatible m/b. As this CPU gaming performance is very similar to intel 13th gen and Ryzen 7000 series.

    • +1

For me, it's an easy upgrade. Instead of new mobo + cpu or new mobo + memory + cpu and having to build, it's a slot in upgrade.

But I have a 5600x that I'm pretty happy with so that's stopped me from actually buying it. Plus I do a lot of editing so the 5900 is better for my needs.

But I'm still interested and if it ever stopped into the high 300s I'd prob bite. Prb won't go that low, but I'll still watch prices and see.

  • +1

Is this the last AM4 CPU basically?

    • +4

Last best for gaming at least.

    • +1

Yes, there won't be any more AM4 CPUs so it's the best gaming CPU to get on this now dead platform. Beats even Zen 4 with DDR5 in some games.

  • +1

So many deals for 58003d, c'mon 5950x papa needs some new cores

    • +1

      Your time will come.

      • +1

I don't know if that's a threat or a good sign but thank you gandalf :)

  • +1

Is PC Byte a good vendor? What's the customer service like?

Their reviews on product review aren't the best

    • +2

They are part of the ebay tech conglomerate. They are legit but a barebones retailer/seller.

  • Is this a good upgrade from a 3700x if I only play fps/moba games?

    • +1

If you have a decent GPU (i.e. at least a 2080 Ti, 6700 XT, 3060 Ti), then yeah it's a great upgrade from a 3700X.

    • Depends on what fps games. Mobas are already highly optimised so not for them.
If it’s cs go, I think other am4 CPU’s outperform this one. Don’t think it uses the cache.

    • Got a 3070Ti and I mainly play Valorant/CS GO

  • +1

Many thanks for posting, had ordered a 5900x from amazon for $570 but this is a better deal (so cancelled the 5900x) - Mainly use PC for gaming so this was well timed.

  • Wondered if anyone has gone from a 5900x to a 5800x3d and noticed a difference gaming at 4k?
    I have a 6900xt and 16gb 3600mhz ram.
Don't do any productivity work but was tossing up swapping CPUs for some juicy fps boost (if any).

  • Any good and reliable m/board to go with this CPU? TA

    • +2

I'm waiting for Black Friday deals for motherboard/RAM/PSU/etc. Will be pairing it with a B350 board until then.

A number of benchmarks have shown not too much difference for any motherboard from B350/X370/up, as long as you get a decent board with a good enough VRM to keep it fed.

    • +1

Any good mid range to top end x570 will pair well.

    • +1

Any old 450 / 550, my board is an entry level 450 and has kept up with everything else so far.
Tomahawk was the 450 go to, so 550 tomahawk?

If you are building a gaming PC to use with a 60hz monitor, you may as well use a console and save your money. 60hz is a terrible pick for any gaming system. Minimum 100, preferably 144hz.

      • You’re right, but for the people who already has 5600 and 60hz monitor, it’s not worth upgrading the cpu without upgrading GPU and monitor.

  • Anyone have a discount code to go with this?

  • Just ordered. Thats a saving of >$100 compared to other PC stores. Amazon was around the $620 mark but its now gone stupid. Kept getting notifications that others were purchasing the 5800X3D constantly as well! lol

    • +1

I ordered as well. It's not far off a cheap AliExpress price, and with stock selling out, it's unlikely to drop a lot from here (especially given it's THE chip everyone wants for AM4).

  • Make it 10 cores and I'll probably buy.

  • How do i choose click and collect? The only option i have is delivery.

    • -1

I couldn't work it out either so just paid the postage.

      • I want to drive to pick it up once they get it at auburn instead of waiting for shipping lol

        • Fair enough, just thought that was better than missing out and waiting a month for a CPU from China.

  • Is it worth switching my system over to AMD for this? (currently Intel 8600k) Heard it's quite good for gaming and should be future-proof to a certain extent. I'd just need to pair it with a new motherboard.

    • +4

AMD already has new platforms for Ryzen 7000 series. Ryzen 5000 series and it’s motherboard isn’t future proof. 5800x3D is still great gaming CPU and cheaper than Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13th gen build. If you want future proof for the motherboard, Ryzen 7000 build probably the only choice now, as next Intel 14th gen probably using new platforms.

  • Listing now says: ETA: 18 Nov 2022
Must be selling quite a few.

    Price now $559 + Delivery

  • Thanks op!

  • tell me when it's $350

    • Sure thing, might be 2-3 years before I consider selling it to you though.

  • Already got a 5600x so not wanting to upgrade unless this drops to a sweet sweet price around $300-400ish soon :)

  • +1

Hmmm, I'm still throwing this up vs a 5900x in terms of value.
The 5800x3D still seems too pricey for the FPS gains, considering the 5900x should drop well below $500 AUD for Black Friday, making it a steal for multitasking and my occasional video editing/rendering. I'd imagine it would also be better for longevity.

Obviously the 5800x3D is the best gaming CPU for AM4 and has significant gains over the rest of the 5000 lineup, but those gains are mostly in specific games and often at lower resolutions. I rarely play RTS games, never touched warzone or ACC, and yet to touch MSFS. At 1440p, triple 1440p or even 4320*2160 (Reverb G2 resolution), the performance difference is almost negligible, so I think the 5900x would be the better option for me.

Can anyone else set my mind at ease either way? lol

    • +1

It really depends on what games you play, I would say warzone and ACC is one of the good case scenarios for the 5900X. It's when you play unoptimised as $%@! games that's when the 5800X3D shines. You have outlier games like Tarkov where the 5800X3D is smashing a Zen4 7950X.

Basically if you only play AAA games, you likely won't notice any difference between the two CPUs. The devs there have enough resources to tune the settings to a wider range of PC configs. It's the not on-benchmark indie/AA/MMO games that should concern you — ask yourself do you play those more than the big titles and are are they titles where latency, frame pacing matters.

In the context of VR, the 5800X3D is going to provide you with better frame-pacing. Plenty of MSFS VR and DCS VR comparison reviews where the 5800X3D edges slightly ahead of a 5900X & 5950X at 4K res. The devil is in the frame time chart (not often shown in reviews).

      • Cheers for reminding me of frame times, will have to look them up as they're definitely missed more often than not.

I don't play games as much these days, and don't really play indy titles. I mostly play a few older games (Which run great already), racing sims like AC, PC2 and Dirt Rally, and space flight sims like Elite and House of the Dying Sun. Unsure if I'll ever bother with ACC or MSFS as they're a bit too enthusiast level for me lol.

I do run VR often with AC and occasionally ED/HotDS, but AC's old engine doesn't utlise the 3D V-Cache anyway.
I need to get back into VR games again, I'm planning on also upgrading from my 2070S to a 6900XT/6950XT which will already be a massive jump in VR performance.

  • Worth upgrading from 3600 or better to upgrade my gpu? (currently have rx6600xt)

    • what are you playing? But upgrading to a 5600 is better value than upgrading to a 5800x3d

      • 60/40 of FPS (COD, BF, Squad) and sim racing (with triple screen 1080p)

  • Assuming these aren't shipping on the 17th anymore (unless someone else who ordered early has a shipping notification?).

    • The ETA changed to 18th a while after posting, so perhaps they have received them and are slowly going through orders to ship?
Mine is still showing as processing.

ETA being the ETA that they have from their supplier/distributor to have stock arrive at their warehouse.

      • Now have a tracking number against my order
