  Natural alternative to paraffin it may be, however:

  studies show that when soy and paraffin candles are burnt they release formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, toluene, benzene, and acetone, carcinogens that can lead to cancer and other health problems.

  Beeswax is the only thing worth burning for a candle.
