    They can't give these away!

    • +1

😂 They aren't trying to give them away!

Guaranteed, if they had a million of these to give away for free, even limited to 1 per person, they'd be gone very quickly … OzBargained into oblivion!

Having said that, I take your point on the lack-lustre take-up of these. AMD really screwed-up the launch of this series.

      • +4

I don't think they are stressed, they are still selling heaps of AM4. Early adopters are willing to pay more, the rest will wait until the early adopter tax disapates.

Zen 4 for server looks amazing, they will just make more of those.

        • +1

Early adopters are willing to pay more,

This is true, but the problem AMD face now is the resurgence of Intel.

    • And free shipping, awesome!

    • But no Paypal…

  • The 7700X is also only $509 which is about the same or better than the BPC tech deal depending on how good a deal free shipping is for you.
Edit: Nevermind BPC tech has free shipping too i think. Amazon shipping it usually quicker for me though, not worth $10 though.

    • +6

BPC sometimes use Aramex for the free option, so either pay $14 for auspost express or risk waiting 2 weeks for Aramex.

      • +8

Aramex is quite literally the worst postal service I have ever used. I don't understand how they are still in business. Total POS company

        • +2

Probably still in business because they are cheap so sellers keep using them. Be sure to avoid them at all costs and complain bitterly to sellers that try send anything to you via Aramex.

        • -3

I don't understand how they are still in business.

Probably because they aren't … well … they were Fastway, but now they are owned by Aust. Post.

          • +1

@photonbuddy: Ordered and electric scooter which was nearly 1k and when i saw they used aramex and i knew there was going to be trouble.

Over a month and finally showing that it was scanned in to Perth warehouse. 2 weeks go by and still hadnt moved.

Could not find a number online for the Perth warehouse and customer service were useless so i drove to the airport and went there.

I was told they cant look for it now (fair enough) but they will look for it the next day as they will be dispatching the goods in that isle tomorrow. Just as I was walking to my car one of the forklift drivers that heard my coversation said hes seen it in the cage so asked if i wanted them to leave it there for pickup once they unload that cage or send it out. Then said it would probably be delieverd the next day anyway so without thinking I thought saves me the drive back out here and left it at that.

Long story….long. 2 months of arguing back and forth I finally got a refund.

            Absolute joke..

Bleeding edge, more like bleeding profits

    • +2

We're early in the platforms life. R&D costs need to be recovered, there are new standards which have increased mobo costs.

You can buy an awesome PC on AM4 or older gen Intel if you're concerned about cost.

      • +3

This whole rhetoric of the AM5 platform being so expensive is quite overblown. As you said, it's the extra standards of the platform. Intel's Z790 platform is roughly the same cost.

  • +14

Its the cost of motherboards thats putting me off, not the cpu or DDR5

    • Good B550 boards can be had for $150, cheapest B650 is going for $300

      • -2

        B550 doesn't support AM5

      • +2

Your points valid but they are coming down, $230 yesterday
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736536

        • That’s a bit of a exception consider the 30 bucks new user off, it’s 260 without it and any decent ddr5 that’s good for gaming will run you another 260+ vs a 130ish ddr4 sets

        • It's starting to get better then, at launch the floor price was closer to $400.

Still hard to justify B650 when B550+5600 costs a lot less and gaming performance won't be much different.

      • +3

I think he was trying to say that B550 and B650 are entry level boards, and how when the B550 for AM4 launched they were/ are $150+ but even the starting B650 AM5 boards start from $300+

    • +2

Totally agree, you can get a 5600 plus motherboard plus ram for under $400, compared to more than double for a reasonable 7600x setup, and you'll be making compromises on the ram and motherboard.

AMD will see terrible sales until the cost of the platform normalises. I know each generation we see an early adopter premium, but this generation seems a little worse than usual.

    • +1

Can't believe they mesed up the B650 launch. After the mid range was such an integral part of the AM4 platform.

      • +1

The early AM4 mobos were fairly expensive for how low quality they were too.
I think the difference is there was nothing really competing directly with AM4 back then but now intel's on top of their game, and AM4 is still good enough for most people.
Though one thing AM4 did that AM5 could have benefitted from was they launched the low end mobos before Zen and sold refreshes of low end CPUs from AM3, so when Zen came out, the mobos were already pretty established price wise.

    • That didn't put people off 12th gen earlier this year. Low tier b660-ds3h was $200+ whilst b560 premium tier was $110-$150

      I got the 10400/b560 mortar/16gb cl 16 for $399

The 12400f and ds3h was $480 without the ram. I was baffled by it being recommended given it's price.

  • Can anyone here comment on the value this latest series provides over a 3900x?
I understand it is getting pretty ridiculed for underdelivering, but I'm not moving over to intel as power consumption is my main concern right now.

Would I really get much more benefit going from 3900x to 7900x as opposed to like 5900x/5950x?
I stream, game, edit videos, use photoshop/lightroom and general use.

I'll be replacing my gpu+ram+ssd's anyway, so moving to a new mobo isn't much of an issue if the 7900x is a big enough improvement.

    • +1

For game, you won't see much difference between 5900 and 7900 if you're playing on qhd or higher.
Would be different if you're playing fps games on fhd.

For encoding, rendering, etc, 7900x is
      25% better than 5900x
      70% better than 3900x.

(3900x is 16% better than 5600x, and 7900x is 100% better than 5600x. - referred two benchmark to compare 7900 and 3900. So, not precise)

      • Thanks. Probably worth it in the long run to grab a 7900 then.
        Helps make my decision easier.

    • The 7900x smashes it in single threaded, so if you're gaming that's where it's at. 5900x is great, but it doesn't compete with the likes of Intel 12th and 13th gen. I'd go for it. Especially if you're a serious streamer, you'll be looking at next gen graphics, it'd be a shame to cough up for fancy graphics just to leave 10% on the table.

      • Gonna make the jump to the 7900.
I guess its probably a good idea to not half way commit to upgrading.

    • The 7900X is substantially faster than the 5900X. But it's also substantially more expensive.
You probably wont notice a difference in gaming performance unless you're running a 4090 or something around that speed, or you're running an absurd resolution/gpu combo like 3080 at 1080p
      https://youtu.be/vHMzQJakRNU?t=239

There's also this one which shows how intel's lineup compares, since if you need to get a new platform for the 7900x anyway, both are worth considering.
      https://youtu.be/I7-2ArdYvfA?t=360
The 3900x isn't on here but you can assume it would have done slightly worse than the 3950x in everything.

  • -4

Price should be $299 for this CPU

    • On what basis?

      • -3

On the basis that the 12600K, a year-old CPU, has had deals at around $360, which is less than this, yet is a better CPU. Hence, the 7600X needs to be priced lower than that

        • -1

Exactly, this cpu is it 5600x replacement, when 5600x priced lower than $200 ATM, this cpu should never be double price than 5600x

          • +1

@abuseyourdna: What was the 5600x's launch price?

            • @ihfree: It was 470 aud according to pcpartpicker prices from 2 years ago

        • Claiming the 12600K is better than the 7600x?

          • @filmer: Gaming performance is basically identical, multi-threaded/productivity performance is a bit better. So yes.

            • @m3ndL3: Not quite right. 7600x uses less power, and is JUST behind in multithreaded, but is way ahead single-threaded (and gaming).

              • @filmer:

                way ahead single-threaded (and gaming)

It really isn't. Techpowerup shows the 12600K 0.9% ahead in gaming on average, i.e. absolutely the same. The 7600X single threaded performance is about 2% better in Cinebench, again basically identical, but the 12600K is 15% ahead in the multi-threading test.

Overall the 7600X wins some and overall single thread is about the same and multi thread is consistently behind

The 7600X only truly wins on power consumption.

      • My budget

        • There are plenty of CPUs for any budget level. Just but something cheaper or wait.
