  Citronella isn't exactly being kind to your dog either.

  Unfortunately, some dogs just bark. They do it for fun, because they love the world, because they're protecting you and your property, because they're scared…

  We have a bitch who is terrified of most people and all men, and she often stands watching me and barking. She barks heaps, and her previous owner debarked her which we think is cruel - but I can understand why. Unfortunately, they never addressed the issue of why she was barking. I think it's because she was being abused by them, and that's why she has problems now.

  If possible, accept your pet for who they are, and try to deal with the source of the problem rather than one of these simplistic "cures".

    The barking doesn't bother me however it bothers the neighbours

  punishments for bad behavior "might" hurt. Just look at the spanking kids argument.

  If possible, accept your pet for who they are,

  A dog that barks constantly is a total pain in the butt for the owner and everyone around them, and totally useless as far as home security is concerned. A well behaved dog that doesn't bark unnecessarily is going to let you know in no uncertain terms when something is amiss. If there's an intruder (or whatever) a dog that barks 24/7 is going to be ignored anyway.

  Is it the ultrasonic one or electric? If it's electric, it's illegal to use anyway, but straight out cruel - please don't even think of using it if it is.
