Exetel Home Secure - How Can I Find out What Device Is Causing These Malware and Phishing Alerts?

Hi all,

I recently ported over to Exetel NBN a while ago, and as a part of the service is a trial of their 'Home Secure' service, that blocks malware and phishing. Since activation, I have been inundated with the same message of a phishing threat, regardless of if anyone is online or not.

I called Exetel, but as the service is third-party provided, they won't supply any IP addresses or further info. Is there any way for me to track down what device, program, app is triggering the messages and uninstall/block? Even if I found out whose device is pinging all the time, I could narrow down the suspects.

The warnings are:
api.peer2profit.global
boost-api.retailzoohub.com

They're pinging a couple of times an hour. Any help would be much appreciated!
(Alternatively, is there a way to blanket block these apis on the network?)

  • API = app on a device, so probably a phone / tablet infected with malware :/

Most routers have a logging function, log traffic and see what IP / MAC is access the above website ;)

    • Thank you! Very helpful, and good to know it's down to a phone (no tablets). I've got the Deco M5, which is annoying hard to get information out of. Currently researching how to get any kind of traffic log from it.

  • Do you have that many devices that you can’t just turn them on one by one until you find the culprit?

    • +1

It's a little trickier than that, as the alerts are not 'real time' and it seems to be an app running in the background. I think I'm sure whose device it is now though - just wondering if there is a way to find out which app is running in the background.
Now trying to find a scanning app for the device that might tell me more info. Do you have any recommendations?

      • I would just factory reset the tablet, personally

        • I would, but it's an android phone I think (if I'm right about which device) and unlike an iphone it won't be easy to set up again. If I can, I'd rather leave that as the final option :)

Peer2profit is a peer-to-peer bandwidth-sharing network. Every month you can make $6 – $75. Remember, the larger your network, the more money you’ll make. This is one of the best options for sharing network bandwidth worldwide. You must of downloaded an app which is then sharing bandwidth.

  • "What is Peer2Profit?

This is a unique system where you make money sharing your Internet. You get paid for your bandwidth.

Most internet users take advantage of only 10% of the available capacity of their internet connection. Peer2Profit allows you to make money off the remaining capacity by providing it to advertisers, marketing agencies and analytics companies."

What's not to like? Do you have the Peer2Profit app resident somewhere on the network?

    • I'm certainly not signed up to Peer2Profit, (nor is anyone else in the family, I checked) so if there is some app secretly pawning off my internet, I want to uninstall it.
