"draw some gold points from new games (Splatoon3, Bayonetta 3, etc)"

i have no idea what/how that is

    • +1

for all your new physical nintendo switch games, you can redeem some gold points and to be used in eshop as money

      • +2

ah i dont have physical (yet).. ok thanks

  • Is this still on?

    • Yup, bit of screwing around but I managed to dig up a physical game I had yet to play yet and redeem about 150 points.
Think the error works out to be something like 40 Aussie cents. Downloading Sifu now :D

      Thanks OP!

      • Still don’t really understand. I just bought a physical Mario game. How do I redeem the gold point?

        • +3

You have to press the + button on the game in the Switch's home menu, and go down to the My Nintendo Rewards Program option and follow the prompt there. However, you can only redeem gold points for physical games that have been released in the past year.

        • If you press start on it on the main library page of the game there should be some headings, one of them is My Nintendo Rewards Programme, and earn gold points from there. I don't know about the method OP used from there since I set up some regional account years ago for US/UK etc. One of them was apparently Argentina because of stuff like this. I added the funds to that account. Dunno how it works if you just change your entire Switch region to it though like the OP did :/

          • @Stoibs: Did you use a different account to purchase? Will you still be able to use your main account to play a game purchased by a different account in Argentina?

            • +1

@Brakus: Yeah, just booted it up and am in the main menu now.

I tend to do this fairly often from the US store when their discounts are different/better than ours and I can play them using my AU account.

Only problem is finding ways to add funds, this Argentina one is by far the hardest 😅
Just lucky I had an unused physical game lying about.

        • +1

Thanks all but damn my physical Mario game is too old to redeem any gold points.

        • If the game is "old" you won't be able to redeem points. I think I got jipped by a game that was just over a year old.

      • I am seeing $39.99. Is that US dollars or Argentina? I have switched my region to Argentina

        • It's Argentina dollars, which is like 39 cents here.

        • Is it a comma and not a period in the price? That looks about right otherwise.

          • @Stoibs: Sorry it is a comma. Damn can’t pay with my credit card. Now I understand why you need gold points

            • @overule: Heh, I tried one of my international ones too, got to the end of the payment page and it wanted some Argentinian area code number thingies. Yeah no easy way to add funds to this region sadly.

  • +1

Still works, just grabbed it for 80 gold points. Had some extra points so I grabbed that DLC is has too for an extra 10. Cheers, OP.

    • Thanks, I will try again.

    • How did you get gold points?

      • Had some physical copies of games that released in the past year that hadn't had their points redeemed yet.

  • +1

Also, you don't have to change your region if you don't feel like messing around with it. You can also make a new Nintendo account and set that to Argentina, then follow the rest of the steps to grab the game. It can still be played across any account on the system when you have it downloaded.

  • where is the "news", inside the eshop?

    • +1

On the Switch home screen, it's the second bubble below all the games

      • in my "news“ there is no sifu news

        • Yeah, it wasn't there for me at first either. I reset the Switch and the News section eventually updated.

  • Any workaround for those who don’t have gold points?

    • guess you need argentina gift card.

      • I searched and I cannot find one

        • you need an argentina friend then. lol

    • No luck for us

  • Thanks for sharing OP. Worked!

  • Can not find sifu

    • +1

try to refresh the news. I did a few times and worked out finally

  • +1

How do I change the region to Argentina? I can see regions: Japan, The Americas, Europe, Aus/NZ, HK/Taiwan/South Korea only

    • Just create new account with different email then set the country to Argentina

    • Choose the Americas. Then select Argentina.

    • No need to change your console region, ie. No need to go to system settings.

Just create a new nintendo account via the nintendo website, and set that to Argentina.

  • +2

If you cannot find the news, find Nintendo Channel, then you’ll see it. Man those many minutes searching I can’t get back 😂

    Thank you btw OP

    • You are a legend! Thanks OP for posting this as well. Been wanting to try this game.

  • New to the Nintendo world. Is vpn'ing to buy games cheaper in other regions typically a thing? Is this a good way to save cash on some games generally?

    • Vpn is not needed, you need that region 's credit card or gift cards.

  • Nice find OP!

  • I can not for the life of me figure out how to create a 'new account'… Do you mean adding a user the registering another email address? Or do I need to make a new account on my phone the login to it? Need a VPN at all?

Just changing my region with one of my current users doesn't allow specifying to Argentina, and I don't know how to login to another account on my switch …

    • +1

You have to change your account region, not console.

That requires signing into your Nintendo account on your phone to switch regions, then accessing the eShop on your switch.

It take a bit of resigning into your account

      • Aha, thank you I found it. I have 550 points currently and it says they'll be erased if I change. I don't have any recent games to redeem, I thought points may carry over the way OP worded description :(

        • +1

I'm a veteran region swapper and I've never lost gold coins, they just stay in the region you redeemed them.

I assume my ~400 gold coins in my Australian account are still there, but I just used Bayonetta 1 to redeem 91 coins in the Argentinian shop

          • @Faro: Name checks out

          • +1

@Faro: I re-read and you're right. I have a few games that I purchased recently physical copies but unfortunately none are 12 month release date. Out of luck! Thanks for your replies.

            • @Jayblesz: No worries. Can be tricky to figure out

  • +2

    Nintendo: TIFU

  • Thanks OP

Couldn't redeem Gold coins from Bayonetta 1's physical release here.

Swapped to Argentina and it got me 91 Gold Coins which was almost exactly the right amount to redeem Sifu and the DLC.

    Now have 1 coin remaining

    • You should get 6 remaining. You get coin by purchasing the game and DLC.

      • I've never received gold coins from using gold coins to outright purchase anything.

  • Problem is when i changed region to Argentina, it displayed error Giveup Eshop remaining balance? I just reload eshop from 15% special before … don't want to lose it

    • Then create a new account.

      • The new account method can make things annoying and messy if you ever change main consoles, but if you don't want to lose your funds, this is your only choice unless you spend all your funds now.

But before doing any of that, make sure you have a Physical game that had been released in the last 12 months where you haven't already redeemed gold coins.

  • Don’t make the same mistake that I did and change your account region back to Australia just before the download finishes. Had to change it back and restart the download again.

  • Ahh bugger… The one day I am not WFH and leave my switch at home. Might just sneak home - can anyone confirm it's still available?

    • It is still there

      • Excellent - managed to claim having aborted my work place. Thanks!

  • Solid find OP. I always wanted to play this game but couldn't justify its retail price. I was hoping it would end up in the PS Extra catalogue but this deal is way too good. Purchased the game and its DLC by creating a new account.

I still have around 100 coins left and wondering what the best way to spend those points. Any ideas?

    • Save it for times like these

  • -3

cheers op! worked with my wise card.

    • got it for 68 cents haha

      • +1

I tried it and it says must use a card issued in your country.

How exactly did you do this?

    • I signed up but it seems like you need to order a physical debit card? Is there any option for virtual card?

    • This does not work. It still rejects the card since it detects it as coming from the US. Wasted $10 to get the card

      • Can you change the currency to peso?

      • -2

worked for me. Changed region to argentina
        access eshop
        input my wise card
        set province to santa cruz
        CUIT 11111111

got charged 68 cents and downloaded the game.

        • Not working still. I did the same you did. I am getting the error about using a card issued in your country/region of residence

        • I dont think Wise supports setting Argentina as your card origin

      • +1

Did not work for me as well
        Sad

        • Yeah I'm call BS on this. Don't waste your money getting credit onto a Wise card folks.

          • -1

            @gadgetguy: https://i.imgur.com/4VGDVca.jpg

:( need to report this fraudulent charge from my wise account then dam

            • @mafaka: Okay how about some more details.

              1. Physical or virtual card?
              2. Credit or debit?
              3. Did you set up a conversion and add Argentinian funds first?

Seems odd that you are the only person to have this working.

              • @gadgetguy: I am assuming he has a credit card and new users receive debit cards now

                • @raphael2012: No, you can choose. The lack of reply still makes me think BS.

                • @raphael2012: Dont think wise has a credit card. it is just a debit card.
Once u put the number in it switches to VISA type payment

                  • @mafaka: I signed up today - for this deal! It asked me if I wanted the card to be credit or debit.

  • so vpn needed? not working at all

    • +1

No VPN needed, change your region to Argentina. I'm not sure how to do it on the Switch console, but login to your Nintendo Account on your browser, go to your profile pic, Account settings, change your region to Argentina under the User Info section.
It will sign you out on your console, so just re-enter your password to sign back in, and you're good to go.

  • I don't think it works anymore I got an error while doing it

    • I got mine a few minutes ago - used gold points to pay.

    • What was the error? It still works.

      • This:

        Error Code: 9001-1670
        This content is currently unavailable.

    • Can confirm this still works, using the same method OP describes. Almost 24 hours later!

Follow it completely. Don't try anything fancy (e.g. change back your region, etc.)

  • +4

For absolute newbies with no Argentina account or no idea, here's what I did (I'm listing based on my recollection of what I did, so some wording might be off):

    1. Visit accounts.nintendo.com and create a new account set to region Argentina. You will need a valid email for this and one that's not been used to create a Nintendo account previously

    2. After account created and verified, go to your Switch console and 'add new user' and select 'link account'. There, input your email (used above) and password. There is no need to set your console to a different region, that is, no need to go to system -> settings etc to change. I kept mine in Australia/New Zealand the whole process.

    3. Find a physical game to claim the gold coins on, note - game must be not more than a year old since release. Insert cartridge and when game appears on your screen, select '+' to open the settings for the game and select 'My Nintendo Rewards Program'. The system will tell you how many points you can claim and which account to appoint the points to. Select your Argentina accoutn

    4. Go to 'News' on the home page, second option from the left. For some reason, mine was showing in Japanese (as I have a Japanese account too). I had to open and close the 'News' page a few times until it showed up in English and I could see the 'Sifu' news. Select Sifu and proceed to purchase - be sure to select your Argentina account when prompted

    5. Game will appear as 39,99 and that is local currency. Continue to purchase game

    6. Be sure to select 'gold points' as the form of currency.

    7. Download

    • +1

Or just change the region on your existing account :), change it back when done.

      • Wouldn't let me do that - tried on 2 accounts. It complained about having subscriptions and existing credit on the accounts.

        • in that case just create a new account - I did mine without hassle and managed to get the game within 10 mins :)

          • +1

@tms846: Yeah already did that but not able to fund it.

            • @gadgetguy: same here, I can't use the existing points on my account after changing regions :(

    • Thanks! Downloading Sifu now.

  • +2

Thanks dReam10! It worked, got it with some points from Wii Sports.

    • same!

  • +1

Just did it now worked fine also got DLC I’m more shocked that I found four games that I didn’t claim gold points with I normally do this straight away when I get a new game.

    • wondering how many gold point you got for each physical games? is it different?
probably easier if i go down and buy some cheap physical games.

    • Can the points be claimed against multiple accounts?

Claim the points against Argentinean account, then primary account etc.
