Expected in-Person Deal on Large ($3k) Apple Purchase

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing an iPhone, iPad and Apple Pencil soon and I was wondering if anybody had any general guidance on the level of discounts I could get from a sales associate if I were to buy this in-person at JB Hi-Fi or a similar store? I know that store associates have the discretion to provide some level of discounts but I haven't made purchases on this scale at in-person stores before, and as such am unsure of the specifics.

The total, without discounts, comes to around $3000. Since I am a university student I can get it for about $2850, so I was wondering whether a deal from a salesperson could possibly get it any cheaper than that? If not, I guess I'd order them from Apple itself.

Any advice is appreciated, and thanks!

    Artemis: hello
    Salesperson: whatttup bruh?
Artemis: I'm planning on spending around $3k on apple products. Can we discuss a deal?
Salesperson: sure, let's see what we can do

Doubt it, but may as well ask. $3k on Apple products isn't much at all. Some individual Apple products cost more than that alone. It's like the guy who thought buying 2 items is buying in "bulk".

I’m still laughing about that this week

    $3,000?

The 14” MacBook Pro costs $3,000. You gotta pump those numbers up if you want a discount.

Better off just buying 10% off gift cards for JB next Coles/Woolworths sale.

    10: Walk in to jb
20: ask if they can do better than apple edu price..
    30: if answer < yes, goto 60
    40: buy items
    50: goto home
60: proceed to Apple and buy
    70: goto home
home: bask in your new found bargain hunting skills.

      Sounds pretty basic

It's Apple, you don't buy Apple to cheap out ;)

Retailers barely make 10% on Apple, good luck getting them to give that up :P

    • This.
It's a premium brand which aims to offer a premium experience. You may get discounts like here and there. And there are better ways of going about it (buy used, stave off depreciation costs). But at the end of the day, a Redmi Phone, Chuwi Tablet, and Acer laptop will still run you much much cheaper.

JB Hifi will likely give you a bit of a saving. Though buying from Apple has advantages, you can return it all within two weeks (actually within about two months at the moment with the xmas return policy) for a full refund. Maybe two months from now you start wishing you got the iPad Pro instead, no problem if you bought straight from Apple.

  • Black friday , if your lucky

  • Apple requires official resellers to sell no lower than a floor price (usually 10% off RRP), so you won't get any better than that.

Did ya try and tempt them by bending over with some cleavage?

Jb associate: I wish that dude would cut it out, I’m super uncomfortable rn.

Failing that, also try to deploy the secret OZBARGAIN handshake as outlined in your OZBARGAIN platinum membership guidebook.

  • Unless you're using discounted gift cards and apple education store prices your chance of in store discounts are next to nothing. Even the staff members do not get much discounts with main apple products. For accessories it can go for about 5-10% depending on staff member you speak with. I'd honestly use edu store + discounted gift cards around black friday sales.

  • I've gotten JB to match education pricing, but good luck getting any lower. Their margins on Apple products are low, because they're reliable sellers year-round.

In what universe is 1x iPhone, 1x iPad and 1x pencil considered a “bulk” order?

Now, if you wanted 10x iPhones…

    • ….a “bulk” order?

This thread sounded a bit familiar and i had to go back and double check to see if it was the same OP lol.

      This is the "bulk" guy
OP here is "large" (large order, that is!)
      😊

  • yeah look, im not sure if someone already posted this BUT apple products rarely move. most you will see is 10% and that is across a lot of retailers.

as one suggested is to get gift cards that are on sale, then wait for apple products to go on their 10% sale. that will be as good as it gets unless you go some other way 2nd hand in particular.

    good luck OP

  • I have had mixed reactions from the staff there,
bought an ipad mini and asked if there was any movement in the price, he scoffed and said 10% off an apple case was best he could do (Ebay for the case it is then).
bought an apple watch (first of the mobile enabled) and ticket price was $599, asked for a deal and he went away and came back saying $549.

  • Gross profit on apple devices was really slim back in the day - $9 on an iphone when I worked in a retail phone shop many years ago!

but I haven't made purchases on this scale at in-person stores before

For you this may be a lot, but for JBHIFI people drop this much on a TV every single minute, so don't kid yourself that you have any bargaining power here.

Also it's Apple, the margins are stupid thin so I doubt you will get anything more than the student discount.

  • What did they offer you when you asked them ? They will either price match apple or take $50ish off the total deal (used to work for JB) on the PDA there's literally bugger all

  • If you're buying an iPad and Apple Pencil, why not a keyboard for it as well?

    • Because no good one exists for the mini 6
