Spam Call Alerts

On android phone platforms you get a spam calling alert when receiving a spam call.

Does anyone know if this is something available on Apple iOS??

Or is that this feature is service carrier dependent?

I know Telstra carrier has this facility- unsure if you have to be a full Telstra customer for this feature? Curious carriers like Boost, Woolworths have this feature?

I know Telstra carrier has this facility

Then why do Telstra allow the call to go through if they know it is SPAM?

some people are lonely any just want to talk

    • It’s in the carriers interest to let the call go through, as they make money.

They don’t make money for receiving calls.

The best way to tell if its a scam call is if your phone rings..

Simply never answer an unknown caller number. Anyone important will leave you a voicemail to call them back.

Picking up those scam calls flags you as an active number on their database so you get even more calls…

You can set your phone to only ring when you get a call from your contact list. If it was a real person with important news they would leave you a voice or text message when they get your voicemail, that's your spam filter.

Try Truecaller on iOS , it’s not perfect but it will certainly help filter known Spam/Charity/call centres etc.
you can add numbers to the white or blacklist, and Database is usually fairly up to date.

I don't have and help for the OP regarding iOS, my apologies. I'm just chiming in to say that the screen call feature on google pixel phones works really well for this issue. I've been having the assistant answer all the unknown callers for me.

Exactly- if only iOS had something similar built into their OS. Always late with everything to catchup with android.

    • uhm, just wondering if I've said anything off-putting? Negs? I thought my comment was quite innocuous.

Do NOT ASSume all spam calls are flagged as it relies on people flagging the number as spam, which is the reported to Google and your phone checks the number.

I would assume an call from a number not in your contact list is spam at the moment, but if they call back a few hours or a day later they may be someone trying to call you.

NEVER confirm or call back or give any details to anyone that calls you. Always call the company back on their switch number that you lookup so that you ensure that they are from the company you are dealing with.

    • but if they call back a few hours or a day later they may be someone trying to call you

Or persistent spammers like James from The Wine Group

  • If you don't want scam calls, get a new number and don't input it anywhere on the internet or give it to any businesses. I did this over 2 years ago and have not received a scam call since.
