Excessive HDD Active Time

Another dumb computer question. Have 2 2tb drives in software raid 1. When doing anything that requires a decent amount of disk access, one of the disks goes to 100% active time, is very noisy, and things go slow. If I run a VM, it is painfully slow. Here are a couple of screenshots, this is transferring a 6gb file to another folder on the same drive -

Really regretting doing raid at all at this point.

    Why not unraid them and use one to automatically make backups at night.

      It's probably what I'll end up doing, was just wondering if this is a common raid thing, or if one of my HDDs is dying a terrible death.

        Why not do a health check on the drives, see what the SMART thing says, how many bad sectors and such.

    Probably windows RAID doing a clean up, this happens occasionally to me as well. But I'm using SMR drives.

    Check the S.M.A.R.T. details to see if one of the drives is unhealthy.

    What other things are you regretting? You seem like a s.m.a.r.t. Kind of guy

    Lots of noise is not a good thing for your drives.

    Check layer 8 errors
