[Switch] Unpacking $22.26 @ Nintendo eShop

140

Aussie made game (Witch Beam) at 30% discount. Cheapest it has been according to dekudeals.

Unpacking is a zen game about the familiar experience of pulling possessions out of boxes and fitting them into a new home. Part block-fitting puzzle, part home decoration, you are invited to create a satisfying living space while learning clues about the life you’re unpacking. Over the course of eight house moves, you are given a chance to experience a sense of intimacy with a character you never see and a story you’re never told.

Have not personally played it but just purchased.

Played this through Gamepass, couldn't recommend it at more than a few dollars. It's neat in how each location tells a story in itself but that's it. A lot of the puzzle part of it seems arbitrary and there's no actual challenge here, just kills a couple of hours.

    • Just played for an hour and I'm really enjoying it so far. Music is very chilled and the game captured the essence of unpacking very well. An example of this is like when I'm missing a shoe after clearing everything in my bedroom and in like where is the other shoe?? Or, hey! This toy made it!

As someone whom has moved quite a few times, it's like a life simulator but specifically for unpacking. There is something very theraputic about finding new home for items you unbox. Oh, yeh, this layout isn't going to work, let's try this. Oh, I'm done with the room but I'm going to sort these books by size then colours.

Overall, it a very interesting concept and so far, all the elements are working very well together. As a gamer that loves various genres and loves pushing gaming as a medium out of its usual mainstream limits, I'm enjoying this game so far. I'm hooked and keen to see what the remaining 2-3 hours bring

I played through it all on Gamepass, and whilst it’s an interesting concept, i grew tired of it after a few levels. Also, don’t be fooled, despite it looking and playing like a child’s game, it’s anything but. Inappropriate themes (ie protagonist moves in with her boyfriend before marriage).

I played through it all on Gamepass. It’s an interesting concept, and I quite enjoyed the first couple of levels, definitely relaxing, and a good way to distract the brain. Also good for Gamerscore. I did grow tired of its somewhat repetitiveness after a few levels. With bright and vibrant colours, the classic 2D SNES style alludes to a simpler time in gaming. I also appreciated the GameCube and GBA references.
Parents looking at a game for the children, this is probably not the one given inappropriate themes (ie protagonist moves in with her boyfriend before marriage, boyfriend/ husband later develops a ‘different’ style of dress).
Aside from that, it’s a well made Aussie developed game.
