HORROR ENGINEERING The Callisto Protocol is a next-generation take on survival horror from the mind of Glen Schofield. Blending atmosphere, tension, and brutality with terrifying moments of helplessness and humanity, The Callisto Protocol immerses players in a pulse-pounding story where unspeakable horrors lurk around every corner.
UNCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNITED JUPITER COMPANY Set on Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol casts players as Jacob Lee, an inmate in Black Iron Prison. When a mysterious outbreak throws the moon into chaos, Jacob must face his darkest fears to defeat the bloodthirsty creatures that stalk him as he unravels the dark mysteries at the heart of the powerful United Jupiter Company.
MASTER BRUTAL, STRATEGIC COMBAT The Callisto Protocol challenges players to master a thrilling blend of hand-to-hand and ranged combat, including a unique gravity weapon once used by Black Iron guards to control the prison population. Players will be forced to get up close and personal with their grotesque opponents, hacking off limbs, blasting off legs, and getting creative with whatever is at their disposal to survive each life-or-death encounter.
EXPERIENCE THE ISOLATION OF JUPITERS’ DEAD MOON One of the most hostile, isolated environments in the universe, Callisto looms large over Jacob’s desperate struggle to survive. Players must not only contend with the horrors of Black Iron Prison, but also the centuries-old secrets that plague Jupiter’s long-dead moon, both above and below the surface.

    This got banned in Japan

    • Why?

      • I watched a game play preview on Youtube… This game looks sick… Sort of a Dead Space look … I want to see more

    • +3

They even pixel porn … do not worry that much. ;-)

Didn't get banned technically. It did not pass the CERO ratings system due to excessive violence and gore which Japan is strict about.

The developer then decided they did not want to tweak the game & cut content for relatively small Japanese audience (as many others do) so they cancelled the release there.

“We have decided to discontinue the Japanese version of The Calisto Protocol. We have determined that the game cannot pass the CERO rating in its current state and that changing the content will not provide the experience that players expect. We would appreciate your understanding in Japan.”

seen some pretty gory japanese content.

        • +5

Yes but I think if it doesn't include an octopus then it is not approved.

      • +1

        relatively small Japanese audience

They are one of the richest countries in the world with a respectable population

        • Japan has the highest debt of any developed nation at US $8.7 Trillion.

I presume you are referring to their GDP which is an index of the goods and services produced & sold by a country.

But, regardless, that wasn't the issue. It's more that the population do not tend to purchase Western titles anywhere near as much as JRPGs for example. That is why Sony and Microsoft are both cosying up to local Japanese developers to help them unlock that market.

      • CERO has particular issue with dismemberment in games, and that is a core component of this game apparently. Source = SkillUp on youtube.

  • Release date is a Friday. I'll be heading to JB to get it for $89 on the day rather than risk it not being delivered until the Monday.

    • Price match, they will do it :)

      • If you’re in Metro flex areas where they use their own delivery, should be pretty reliable. If not then go for JB

Why i read that in yoda's vice. Haha

    • Agreed. God forbid you get a game a couple of days late, it'll be virtually unusable.

      • +2

It's more that I want to play the game that weekend and am happy to spend $5 more to guarantee not having to wait but thanks for your concern

        • -3

Yes, god forbid you don't get the game for the weekend, that's an extremely unique event, it's not like the week ends every…. week.

Buy off amazon finish in 30 days, return for refund

Definitely a “wait for the reviews” kind of game. This and Dead Space remake coming out so closely together is kind of crazy.

Great price for a brand new PS5 game.

But go to a physical store on launch day if you wanna play over the weekend. I've never received any Amazon game preorders on launch day.

  • 100 smackeroos? I'll wait when it eventually goes for free at Prime/Epic.

  • Its been this price on Amazon for months, how is this a deal?
